Forcing myself to eat!

If I never put another piece of food in my mouth, it would be alright with me!  That's right, life is good and I'm healing well except for the fact I have to eat.  Almost everything makes me nausus (sic), I suppose it's from eating too fast or the wrong foods.  I've dumped three times on foods that days ago I tolerated, from nuts to protein bars.  I'm keeping my protein levels up by drinking New Whey and other drinks, but food is something else.  I try and eat at least twice a day, at most I can eat 1/3 of an entree of frozen dinner like turkey or chicken, a bite or two of the veggies, but that's all!!! Dumping for me is like an allergy attack of my youth except better, gagging, stomach cramps and a bm, then it's over.  No welts like my youth.  I'm on level 9 and released for a year from my bariatric doctor's office. It's amazing how little you can eat and survive. BobM.

I know right, these surgeries should be called Anorexic-Inducing procedures because I never want to eat but I force myself to eat throughout the day. Nothing makes me nauseous thankfully, but I still just have no desire to eat, it's fantastic.

I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum. Some days I feel like I have no restriction at all. I kinda wish I would dump at least once on the sweets.

Quit eatin' sweets and you won't have to worry about it!

If only it were that easy. The good thing for me is that I haven't eaten anything too bad and never in excess (usually just a bite or two).

Bob, Sorry to see you’re having difficulty advancing your diet intake. One thing that works for many, and something my doc told me--- If something you eat irritates the system, then your system will be irritated still when it comes time to eat again. When ever you have a problem with a food, Drop back to something super easy (like re-fried beans or soft scrambled eggs) For a few days to let your guts “calm down.” Your “Allergy Attack” analogy was pretty sharp. Same sort of thing. If you are having a mild allergic reaction, then you are hypersensitive And more likely to react negatively to smaller stimulus. Follow? And on top of it, your body has been through a Whole Lot! treat it like a premmy baby for a while. Hang in there. The learning curve can be a Biotche, But most everyone masters it. Keep at It! Best Wishes- Dx

Time to start reading labels, dude. Sorry if you already do... That sounded kinda rude, my bad.

Anyway, a lot of the bars I've seen seem to have a ton of sugar and carbohydrates. When I was in the pre-op Atkins phase I tried to use bars to substitute for a meal. Impossible, even with the Atkins brand. Go figure.
I've also read that some people can't tolerate nuts after the surgery. They can be irritating to the stomach and intestines. From personal experience, when I was on my pre-op diet every once in a while I would gorge myself on nuts (almonds) without realizing it. These incidents precipitated the most painful bowel movements of my life. It felt like I was ****ting broken glass. Afterwards I was in so much damn pain I couldn't do anything but shift cheek-to-cheek. I thought it was hemorrhoids until my brilliant and sexy wife pointed out that I am a dumbass and that this should be common sense. You know how you sometimes see peanuts in your stool the morning after watching a good baseball game? Well, I guess our bodies (stock and modified) can't break down un-chewed nuts.

So, how's the rest of you doing? Still wearing the Shop-Vac?

I dont know what kind of surgery you had but I had RNY Divided gsatric bypass 10-04 wt was 502 lbs I was admitted to the hospital 10-06 wt was 158 lbs I am 6ft4 I was admitted for dehydration and malnutrition. I almost died. I had made my final arrangements. Luckily they found out my original surgeon had bypassed my bowel by 250cm and the standard is 50-150cm so I had to have a rework and they moved the connection back up by 100cm for the nonmetric crowd thats 40 inches of bowel.I had to have TPN and Lipids (liquid protiens and FAT) for 2 weeks to have enough reserves to survive surgery.you may want to look for something called SHORT GUT or SHORT BOWEL SYNDROME>needless to say this was the biggest mistake of my life.

Whay you are dealing with is not normal. You should definitely consider seeing your Doctor soon. I was the same way, with similar sysmptoms. Once they got my gall bladder out the nausea etc went away. you might want to have it looked at. CS
