Lets talk about Plateau's

Ok guys, it has been a while since I have asked any questions, but now I need just a bit of encouragement. I am just over 7 months out and I have not lost a pound in five weeks. I am at a constant 219 to 221. That is down 115 pounds just to give you an idea where I am. I am not so much worried about doing a plateau busting diet, but I am starting to wonder... Will I be the first person that just stops losing seven months, (well six really) after RNY? So let me hear some of your words of encouragement. Do any of you remember your first true plateau? How long did it go? I know this has got to be normal, or at least I hope so.  Thanks in advance, Troy

Troy, I had about 3 stalls "on the way down." my longest was 4 weeks. Could be a number of reasons for sitting at that weight..... How close to a Normal BMI are you at 219? Are you near Goal Weight there? Extra loose skin? Getting exercise? Many variables come into it... *see post above. 7 months out does seem atypical to hit a complete stop. Many find they can still lose even after year two. Check your intake versus your use of calories for a few weeks and that should reveal the problem. Best Wishes- Dx

Hey DX, thanks for the input. The goal my surgeon and I set was for me to get to 185. That is just barely normal BMI for a 5'10" guy like myself. Skin is not much of an issue. I have been lucky so far with that. I had slowed down on my exercise (walking daily), but not my activity lvl if that makes sense. However for the last 4 days I have been riding my bike every morning. My calorie intake ranges between 1400 to 1700 a day and it has been about that since three months out. I do not think I am over looking anything, but taking a good hard look never hurts. I didnt really want to change much to get through this because I feel like I have a very solid routine, I was hoping it was normal and would pass.....but five weeks. Yikes!

We have a few “Plateau Experts” here on the Board. If memory serves, CB (Carbon Blob) was the King of Stalls All the way down to finally going below goal. Hopefully some who’ve had longer plateaus will chime in… For me, the weight would sit unchanged for 3 to 4 weeks, Then with no change in my diet or exercise, just start falling again. Hope yours breaks for you soon. Best Wishes- Dx

Wow Troy! Don't have much to offer as far as your question but I just wanted to let you know you're doing great!  You look like a different perosn.  You were having your surgery about the time that I first started looking into having mine and I followed your posts pretty close.  I haven't seen any of your posts for a while.  Good luck to you on your plateau.  I had a stall at 255 (about 2 weeks).  But then things started moving again.  I'm 233 now.  Best of luck!
