30th post op race --- report - 10K
I ran my 30th post op race today. It was just a 10K but it was the second most meaningful. I used to watch it every year and I wanted to run it so badly but never could. Two years ago I ran the 5K event in the same race but I didn't think that I could handle the 10K. Last year I had to work. This year I got to do it. It kind of sucked that it was 85 and humid at the start but historically that's what this race is known for. The first 10 places or so were African runners. The winning time was 29 something.
I knew the heat would beat me down but it got me really good. I will save all the suspence and drama. My goal was an hour since I have a PR of 54 minutes. I add a minute per mile for the heat. My buddy went out too fast and I didn'y see him until mile 5.5. I caught him and we finished almost together.
As I came to the peak of the hill before the finish, I saw the clock and it said 59:20. I gave it everything I had and finished in 1:00:03. How about those balls. Now in the paper tomorrow, I am going to be the first one listed with 5 digets after their name. As I always say, it could be worse. I could still have to buy shoes that slip on because I can't tie them.
