Subway's Latest Commercial - Pretty Tasteless

I sometimes wonder if the companies that advertise on T.V. really do any accurate "real" test-marketing of commercials before they air them, to see how the public will react to them and their product or service ..  I watched Subway's latest creation earlier today on the tube for the first time  ..  It ends with an announcer reading a long list of many of the "special" things that a MO person typically (and supposedly) needs to get by in life ..  e.g. seatbelt extender, stretch pants, "extra-strong deodorant", etc.  ... while a person off camera hands a big bundle of these  items to the man in the picture, who, of course, is not eating (or contemplating not eating) the right foods (i.e. not eating Subway) ..   I don't know about ya'll, but that ad gets me really steamed up ..  First of all, it implies that if you don't eat Subway you're going to end up obese, which, of course, is nonsense.  Even worse, IMHO, is that it further stereotypes the MO and disparages them with that insulting list of "special needs"  items ..    I wonder what "Jerod" thinks of that ad?

I haven't seen that one, but Subway's commercials have bugged me in the past.  After the initial Jerod commercials they had a spokesman that was a real ass.  He went around, in the commercials, being a jerk to people.  After a couple of those ads, they changed his behavior.  I had hoped it meant some ad exec had lost his job, guess not.    I think that Subway needs an entire new ad agency and image consultant.

You got that right, Brent ..     I read somewhere recently that, despite all the accolades that Subway garners for Jerrod, the co. actually put out a press release that they do NOT advise that the public follow the same diet he did ..   (say what???)

I have no comment on the ad, but I do have a problem with Subway. Evem though I'm a carb addict, I don't like hard rolls and most other breads.  The main thing that Subway emphasizes is that its food contains less fat than most of the fast food chains.  They don't say anything about the carbs.  Most of the men who post here would have to request their orders without buns in order to eat there.

I haven't seen the commercial but it does not surprise me that it is offensive. The whole current "Blame everything on overweight people" craze gets me riled up. IMO I think the whole thing started with a bunch of Drs who believe that anyone disrobing in front of them should give them a woodie.

I hear ya... the 'extra strength deodorant' is the one that offended me.  But, of course, the public sees the stereotype of the stinky fat guy.  Heck, we've all been around them..   We have one that we always see in the store here in town, and it's so bad, my kids will switch isles to not pass him... and as a fat guy, I know ya can't just walk up and say, hey dude? Um... do you know you stink?  And why do you always wear that same green t-shirt and red sweats that don't fit? Anyway, incidents like that have always made me paranoid about smell... I will get obsessive with showers and deodorant rather than smell... always been that way. Then, after all our efforts to show well dressed, nice smelling overweight guys, Subway comes along with a commercial that shows all the bad things at once... stretch pants, and extra strength deodorant. It's clear they want to scare SKINNY people with the idea of not being FAT.. but they don't care if the FAT people are offended and don't come. Dale

I haven't seen the ad, but will keep my eyes out for it.  It sounds disgusting!  Keep in mind that your average skinny nutritionist pushes low fat, high carb diets.  I have always been so disgusted with these young good looking nutritionist who have never been over weight in their life telling me what I need to do to lose weight.  Do I sound unreasonable?
