Surgery went well, but...

My RNY surgery went well on May 27th, however when the doctor got in there i had a huge hiatal hernia that he had to repair as well and repair the diaphragm.  Surgery was three hours instead of the 1 1/2 he initially thought it would be.  Bought me an extra day in the hospital.  Came home on Friday afternoon and each day seems to be getting better.  I am doing my walking, sipping water and protein.  Had two bowel movements yesterday and one today, small but things are moving down there.  Thanks to you guys for all of your support!   Rob

I too had a hernia repaired at the same time as my RNY. The difference being that my doctor and I both knew about it before hand and knew that he was gonna patch it up while he was in there. I think it added to the abdominal soreness part of the recovery somewhat. At least compared to the recovery tales of others on here. I had a hard time getting out of bed for about 10 days.  You're going through the toughest part of it right now, but it sounds like your attitude is great. Hang in there, better days are coming, and keep us posted on your progress. JF

Rob, Glad to hear you’re home, and that they fixed other problems while in there. Best to get it over with. Hang in there! These first weeks suk no matter what. Just remember, IT DOES GET EASIER EACH WEEK! Best Wishes- Dx
