Second day back in the gym!

Put in 2 miles on the treadmill, then some super light, high reps (20 reps a set) weight training on the machines. 2 sets each of seated row machine, lat pulldowns, and cable rows.  I know I have a lonnnnggg ways to go, but at only 31 days post op, I figure that ain't too shabby! For some reason posting each days activity here helps me stay focused and determined to keep going back -  don't want to too  look like a quitter or a wuss, or cause others to stumble.

Post away, I know what you mean.  Having other people know what your goal or activity is can help you stay motivated.   Keep up the great work. Scott

Awesome job on the exercise front by both you "good ol' southern boys." For me, a pretty lackluster week for exercise since I was back in Iowa. Got in around 50 miles of biking along with my daily regiment of pushups, sit-ups, leg lifts and walking. Did some light lifting yesterday after Bama inspired me.  I did load and haul away a ton of junk from from my sisters farm and dug a 300 foot trench so I guess that counts towards the tally. Was going to wrestle some hogs but couldn't find any worthy of the challenge. .   Looks like we got us a "RockyTop and Bama locker room daily exercise challenge" taking shape here. I'm game if you guys are.  By the way, it took me a couple of months after WLS before I had the endurance to bike out of our subdivision so you're doing better than me, RockyTop.   Boner

Remember muscle weighs more that fat.  Don't be suprised to see a stall or two on the weightloss.  You'll be losing inches but the scale may not budge for a while.  No worries though.  I found when I would exercise hard I wouldn't lose any weight for a few days.  The day I would do odd jobs around the house (getting in hard difficult angles for work, but not pushing to hard...I'd drop 4-5 pounds the next day.  Again it seems the body holds on tight during exercise days and releases the weight on work days.  Brian

Bama, Posting about our accomplishments or reading others' accomplishments is motivation.  Post away my friend if it help to keep you motivated.  We all need motivation and what ever it takes, I say do it.  For me just getting into the gym and working through not wanting to be there and staying focused on how I feel when it is all said and done.  That is my motivation. You are doing awesome.  For me at six weeks out, I was just starting on the elliptical for 20 to 30 minutes.  Then started weight lifting at 8 weeks out.  The more you do it and as you start to feel and see the results the more addicting it gets.  I encourage you to take pictures so you can see yourself. Stay in the locker room and we want let you become a quitter or a stumbling block. Take care, Bill

way to go bama but let me add a caveat. if you're going to continue weight lifting, even lightly, you have to be aware it is actually a dangerous sport if not done properly or giving yourself enough rest etc. i'm not capt. bringdown here, just want to remind you to get back into this sport easy. don't work out everyday. i have some posts from way back if you want to look them over about beginning weight lifting, even for older guys going back to it.

the very best thing you can do is to start over with a beginner's program and stick with it for the rest of this year. if you work out only three days a week i will tell you that you will see results like you wouldn't believe and pack on at least 8 to 10 pounds of muscle. you need to start with the basics. compound movements. the stuff you're doing now is all isolation stuff for int. to advanced lifters. i found a great article for you. it also has sub links for all the jargon too. so read it over. if you're truly committed to lifting than it's going to take diet, rest and routine to get results. which is good because we needed to change all that anyway.

so not trying to come off like a know it all or preach. everyone needs a starting place. i just see so many guys give up after a few months because they don't see results. that's because you have to eat right and do the right lifts to see results. so read the article. i'll bet my last dollar if you follow this routine you will be amazed at the results.

oh, one more thing. spend the next few months just reading. i think it's way to early to start lifting anything serious. for myself i did circuits for months before starting a basic routine. then, about four months later i did my split routine. now i do one body part a day. work into it slowly is what i'm saying. give your muscles and the surgery time to heal. in a couple months try doing this routine listed below. in the meantime i would suggest you go to this site and look up circuit training. keep it light and you'll get results. resist the temptation to go heavy for a while. do circuits maybe 3 to 4 times a week plus your cardio if you can. this will set up a routine that blasts weight loss big time and will carry you through to something that might work for the rest of your life. you don't have to be crazy about it either. if you can just do three days a week, lifting that is, you'll stay in shape forever. good luck.......

Thanks for all the encouragement guys! I'm mostly just concentrating on walking the treadmill right now, with some super light weigth/high rep exercises that target certain muscles, like biceps, triceps and chest.  I'll hopefully get back to the full weight training on a more specific and defined program in a couple of months.  The reason I post what I did is that reading what others here post in regards to exercise really helps to motivate me and get me off my arse! Hopefully, my posts will do the same for someone else.
