Just wondering which vitamins to use. Does a person have to stay on chewable tablets forever? What is a good brand to use? There has gotta be something better than these Flintstones Kids Chewables my doc has had me on for the past month.

Thanks

well, one of the doctors that just came and spoke at our support group now tells his patients chewable for life.  He indicated that test results have indicated better absorption for patients using chewable over standard pills. I usually order from bariatric advantage. They have a good selection in different flavors. It costs more than going to the vitamin store or costco.   currently I am taking the flintstone chewables for my multi vitamin and my b12 for a local vitamin store, the Iron and VitC is coming from bariatric advantage. Good luck finding something you actually like.  I know my one trip away from my normal vendors cost me money in vitamins that I will never take because they taste like crap.  Not to mention the calorie content.  I'm not willing to give up 25 calories so I can take the liquid iron.   Scott

I don't know if you have them where you live, but I use the chewable multi-vitamin from Trader Joe's. I also use their house brand B-12 + folic acid sublingual.

I use a chewable iron made by Nature's pantry.

I use the WalMart brand of chewables that are the equivalent of Flintstones, only about a1/3 the price. My NUT at Vandy said they are as good as you can get, and they work fine for me.

Thanks for all the advice.

I tried some different supplements. GNC has several chewables that arent bad but they are full of calories and are about the size of 50 cent pieces. They call them wafers.

The hardest vitamin I have found to come up with is the B-100 supplement the sawbones wants me to take. I finally found one bottle of 50 at a CVC; they aren't stocking them anymore. Big ol' pills and talk about nasty when crushed. BARF!!!!

Liquid medications and liquid vitamins tend to be absorbed the easiest. Pills have to be digested, while liquids bypass the digestion process in the pouch. Liquid vitamins are discussed on my profile. DAVE

My surgeon recomends Optisource chewable for bariatric patients. I get them on line at Walgreens, they also have them at there store. They ship for free if you order them on line. I was told to purchase the Centrum chewables. They come in orange or berry flavored and a couple of drug stores have a store brand version that is cheaper.  Taste is not really that bad, I was told to take one a day.
