Successful Fistular surgery for BobM.

Friends and warriors of God, Surgery was a success, the fistular has been fixed, I came home with a portable KCI wound vac and a girdle to wear for the next several years until my skin is healed. 3 more weeks in the Burn/Wound ICU, couple of bouts of depression, but home home with no Jtube, no feeding tubes, no any other kind of tube.  I saw my home health nurse today and she said I was gravy, she measured my wound and she said widest: 4" and deepest was 1.5 mm (no very at all).  The wound vac/girdle combo will be with me for at least a couple of years. I can eat, pureed, mushy, liquidy, popcyclely; type foods, nothing makes you appreciate as much as being NPO for 4 months. Can't lift anything over 15 pounds, can't bend from the waist, can't vacuum ( not all bad), have to very careful with my skin. Joy and Peace,  BobM.

I'm glad you're doing OK...any surgery sucks. Can you let me know what a fistular is and if it was a result of your WLS? Not sure if it's the same thing but I had a "fistula" a few years ago (not WLS related).  Again, glad you're doing OK....i wish you a speedy recovery!!

Hello Bob, I am happy to see that you're home and hope the road smooths out for you now. Cervantes or somebody said, "Hunger is the best sauce," and I think there's a lot of wisdom in that. So enjoy the real food in whatever you can and force yourself not to vacuum and such. Seriously, I am really pleased to see your post.

Bob, So glad to hear the outside is now completely separate from the inside of Bob! Having the tubes out is a major jump forward. Keep your protein high and keep growing that hole closed. You are crossing the threshold to normal now! Awesome new Bob is ready to take on the world A little bit more each day. Keep it Up! Best Wishes- Dx

Bob, Great to see you’re still kicking old boy and on the mend. It has been a long road but you'll be on the other side before you know it.  When I was 18 years old, I was in a motorcycle wreck that broke my left leg in 47 places. I had 9 operations over 3 years and had to learn to walk from scratch. All this was in Navy hospitals with Navy doctors. It was a really trying time and I was 500 miles from my family during the bulk of it all. There are many days lying in bed in traction that I wish they would crank up the morphine drip and let me out of the personal hell of pain I was living in. That was 30 years ago and while I still have many scars, both mental and physical. Now I am now out hiking 17 miles on a Saturday. I also met my wonderful wife of 28 years just 6 months after the first round of surgeries. After sailing down the road top at 60 miles per hour on my head and shoulders, I figured that God and I had an understanding. When it is time for me to go, I'm out of here because I really should have died that day but he has kept me around. As bad as all of this seems you have to focus in life on the other side. You will get there brother because you’re a fighter. Have Dx tell you his WLS story it not quite so bad but he made it out the other side and he is doing great things everyday. I'm still praying for you Bob, keep fighting and this will all be a bad memory soon... Regards, Tim
