Six weeks and I can't get past this

Its been about six weeks since the RNY (lap), I've lost about 65lbs and have had one stricture repaired. (last week) I still can not get enough energy to make it through the day. I know that is because I am barely eating and drinking just barely enough without getting much protein. BUT I am on the verge of throwing up 80 % of the day. Between the ketosis taste in the back of my mouth and tons of excess saliva all I do is spit or throw up. I have not made it through a full day at work yet. I am really on the edge of losing it, I just want to feel normal again, screw the weight. I know my seasonal allergies are not helping but I just feel SO sick all the time and I don't know what to do.

I agree...A certain percentage of people with strictures have to go back a second or third time to have them enlarged again.  Keep you doctor or gastroenterologist in the loop on what is going on.  You might want to post on the Main Board about having this issue (just with the volume there, you'll find a ton of people who have the same issue).  Brian  PS  NO NEED TO GRILL ME ABOUT GOING OVER THERE...SOMETIMES IT REALLY DOES MAKE SENSE.

Matt,  I know how frustrating that can be, leading up to my recognizing I had a stricture, I kept beating myself up. Thinking I wasn't chewing enough even though I counted every bite or I was taking to large of bites or eating to fast.  It didn't make sense, eat the same thing a few days earlier and then can't keep it down two days later.  I know a gal who has had 7 strictures that needed dilation! I know you've been through it before but  it sounds like another stricture or ulcer?  Not trying to play doctor here (all though I did spend the night at a Holiday Inn Express) but it does sound like more then the norm?  Don't let it continue to the point of dehydration, I was on the verge and had to get catheterized not fun when your awake.  I've known people who after getting dehydrated had to spend several days in the hospital.  After the first stricture repair did your present symptoms go away  even for a few days? That might tell you something right there.  Good luck Bro. Hey Dude... You bring up a really good point...people don't realize how bad allergy boogers can clog your new stoma You are not being a baby, to chat with the doc about further dilatation... on the allergy front, how about some kind of shot, that way you don;t have to swallow anything...

Matt, Sorry you are hitting so many hurdles right now. It may be that your stricture needs dilation again. For many it takes 3+ treatments to get it to the right size. Sinus drainage can also be a major Biotche! Keep your doc in the loop big-time. Feeling ‘down’ and nauseated all the time, Just leads to more feeling down and nauseated. Ask for your doc to give you some relief. Prescriptions can help you get over this hump so that you can enjoy life while growing toward a thinner you. Best Wishes- Dx

Great on the weight loss but ACK on the other problems. I would go to my doc and wouldn't leave until we got some things worked out like, nausea meds, something for your allergies and a game plan to deal with the strictures. Don't forget you are the customer so make sure you get your monies worth.

Hey Matt - sorry you're having a such a struggle right now.  The desire of wanting "to feel normal again" is very common after the surgery, and you're not alone in getting discouraged. Are you going to a local support group, or seeing a therapist to help right now?   I've sent you a private email with more information too.  Hang in there man.

Hey Matt I won't pretend to know what strictures are. I had the gastric bypass. I can tell you that I relate the the way you feel. There was a point post op that I told my wife to call the surgeon and I'll pay to reverse the damn thing.I was so weak I couldn't tie my shoes without having to lay down afterward. I couldn't even drink water. Which resulted in renal failure. But I CAN tell you that it got better. Probably none of this is of any comfort to you right now, but I always recommend you keep your doc informed of everything you are feeling no matter how insignificant you may think it is. My thoughts are with you and I truly hope you start feeling better. OH! Before I forget.... Congratulations on those 65lbs! Thats incredible for just 6 weeks. Good luck bro!....Inky

If I had just stopped reading at the 65 lbs lost, I would say great work for 6 weeks post-op! I am at 9 weeks post-op and I am around 50 lbs lost.

However, your other symptoms are very disconcerting and you should really keep your surgeon in the loop and get it checked out A.S.A.P. Throwing up all the time is not normal and means that your stricture still requires work.

Good luck!
