Blended chili, highly recommended.

Why didn't I think of this earlier? Blended soups are alright but blended chili really hits the spot. I'm going to be eating a lot of this over the next week.

Which brand of chili do you buy?  Just trying to get people's preference... -Rob

One of the best I found protein to calorie ratio was the Nalley but personally I picked up about 20 cans. I figured a this stage I am not going to eat a chili I don't love since I have so little food I can enjoy so I bought just about one of everything in the store.

Guess I'm missing food.

Just go very easy.  Beef can be hard to digest the first month out.

The gas that just might come with it !!!! OMG  You might have to repaint ; althought you wont have to scrap the walls because they will already be peeled . Nick ( Good luck with that )

I didn't try this when I was on the puree stage, but textured vegetable protein (either generic or the Morningstar Farms "crumbles), a soy-based ground beef substitute, can be added to canned soups, and really helps this stuff "eat like a meal".   And you can usually fit anywhere from 10-20 extra grams of protein to a serving, depending on how thick you want the resulting soup to be. And, unlike whey protein, TVP really is pretty tasteless when it's added to a savory, highly flavored soup.  This stuff is ready-to-go for the Stage 3/"soft foods" stage, but I guess it would also work well pureed in a blender for extra smoothness. Chili is pretty high protein already w/o the need for any extra TVP, but it's great when added to lentil or black bean soups, or even a vegetable soup. /Steve

I'll have to check out that TVP. Chili is pretty high in protein, but not quite high enough. Needing 800 calories and 80 grams of protein the math is easy anyway, I need 10 grams of protein per 100 calories. The closest I've found in chili is Hormel Turkey with beans at 210 calories and 17 grams of protein. I added whey to make up the difference but the other chilis are closer to 300 calories and 20 grams of protein so they need a little more help.

Surprisingly this is the first thing I have not tasted the whey protein in. I may use the TVP for other foods but seeing as much of the protein I'm getting in the chili is vegetable protein I'd rather balance it out with whey than add more vegetable protein. I think the chili spices just completely cover up the taste of the whey, just figured that one out this morning and couldn't be happier.
