setting weight loss goals
Do you guys still set weight loss goals for yourselves?
I think I have been doing better as long as I set myself a little weekly weight loss goal. I find that I hold myself more accountable than if I just kind of free form.
Right now I'm 4 pounds from hitting the 200 pound loss mark. It is my goal for next sundays weekly weigh in!
If you aren't setting goals, do you have any tricks or tips that you use to keep yourself focused and not start back up the weight gain path?

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
I've never set a weekly goal. I set kinda ballpark style quarterly goals. I'm coming up on six months out and back at 3 months out I decided that it was possible to be under 300 by 6 months out so that was my goal. Looks like I'll either barely make it or barely miss it. I'm not gonna get mental about it either way. I use daily calorie goals to keep myself in check more than anything else. I try to keep what I consume minus what I burn off from exercise at between 1000 and 1500 per day. Some days it's hard, some days not.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
Scott,
I didn't set 'mini-goals,' but I did stay focused on the long-term.
Establishing new habits is "what worked for me."
And keeping with the basics-
Protein First, No empty Calories, Taking my Vitamins, getting exercise, etc...
That has served me in the long run
To break away from the "Diet Mentality"
That had served me so poorly in the past.
You'll bust right through that 200 mark anyday now!
Keep it Up!
Best Wishes-
Dx
Holy crap! And I thought I was a fast loser?!
You lost almost 200 lbs in 4 months?
I thought my 150 lbs was impressive...lol
Good job man!
Personally I think weekly weight loss goals are a little overkill since most people have some fluctuations, but whatever works for you and keeps you on track! I just set a short term goal (200 lb loss by end of summer) and then a long term goal (218 lb goal weight which is considered a "normal" BMI). You can only do your best and not sweat the small stuff....
