Bowel Movements and Nerve Studies

Okay, this may turn into something long and involved just bear with me. Firstly let's talk about bowel movements (and no I don't need the "chart" lol). Do you guys ever "go" and have intestinal discomfort? Almost the feeling of a stomach virus coming on but then it goes away. It's completely weirding me out and almost makes me think something is wrong inside. Just the intestinal cramping is uncomfortable, not excruciating, but enough to make me notice. Wondering about that AND.... Have any of you guys ever had a nerve study done? I had to have one today at my neurologist's office and talk about HURT. I'm not a wuss by no means but this felt like I was being shocked by a cattle prod! Basically that's what it was, anyway because he stuck this electrical device against my leg numerous times and it made my foot jump and it really started to hurt. And to top it all off the doctor stuck a needle in my left leg (including both left and right sides of the calf, shin area, and left and right side of the foot) and then in my lower back like 7 or 8 times in each location. I am so sore from that crap. Turns out I have to have an epidural injection from a different doctor fun stuff. Any feedback, as usual, is appreciated. Thanks!

All I can add is this, just started taking calcium tabs and noticed a "brick inside" feeling (calcium citrate-malate). Wonder if soft high fiber food, or other types of food combined with calcum or iron supplements might do it.

Don't know anything about the nerve study.

Sorry!

Dave

That "intestinal cramping" business sounds "not right." It’s not associated with eating "white Carbs" like bread, rice, etc…? If that, then it could be excess gas from the Carbs, but if just routine for you, Then not so… It could be nothing, or something. Hit the doc up with that one. Internal hernias, adhesions, partial intestinal blockages, etc… A whole host of "It Might Be’s" But your doc can get to the nitty-gritty-sh*tty of it. The Nerve studies are aimed at zeroing in on a fix for your back? Hope you get relief there soon. Best Wishes- Dx

Yeah for the back, sorry. I didn't want to entertain the idea of an internal hernia/blockage/torsion/de-astomosis/etc haha naturally...I see him this Thursday I will definitely make a note of it to bring it up.

When you said nerve studies and constipation in the same post, I was thinking of the Optic-Anal nerve, responsible for the ****ty outlook on life,  Ta-dump-dump. CB

Haha that's hilarious. No, I don't have a ****ty outlook on life just trying to fix the one I have so it doesn't get that way.

Nerve studies suck!!  The first one I had the Navy doctor was training a young (and cute) female ensign and I was the training aid.  He was going out of his way trying to impress her with all the cool things he could make my leg do......that is one officer that damn near got his ass whipped that day.

HAHA OMG that hurts so much I wanted to punch the little foreign ahole! But it was over with relatively quickly I guess compared to the pain I was in anyway lol. I was sore the rest of the day from that.

Lance,

Is the epidural injection and Steroid injection?  If so it is done as an outpatient procedure and you will probably head home about an hour after the injection.  You will most likely have an IV started before the procedure, so they can give you some sedation during the procedure (they probably gave the same medication before your surgery to help you relax).  they will use a type of XRAY to find the proper spot in the back to make the injection and will inject the ares that your first MD feels are causing the pain.  They will inject a steroid to help decrease the swelling that is pressing on the nerves and causing the pain you have been experiencing.  It can take a couple of days for you to feel any better.  It can also make your legs weak for the first couple days, so make sure they feel strong before you stand up.

This is sort of like the cortisone injections people get in their shoulders and knees.

If you have any questions let me know.
