What is the deal with having to use the bathroom so much....and I am not talking about #1.  It seems like I spend half of my day in the bathroom since coming home from surgery.  ugh

You're clearing yourself out, it's a good thing.   Plus, you lose weight because of it. It took me about 10-11 weeks to get back to normal function.  I look at it as positive, because I know the differences in the output mean something has changed for the better. On another note, stay away from chili unless you want accompanying music!!  I have made turkey chili one of my daily staples and the family pays the price, if you know what I mean. Good Luck Guy

ROFLMFAO...thanks for the advice!!!  I was just a little concerned because when I was pre-op it seemed like everyone was writing how constipated they were after surgery...

Everybody's definately different.  I have never had constipation since my RNY.  It's a blessing, I think.

The first couple of weeks were strange.  Toxic gas clouds.  Baby poop.  I really wondered if it was going to be like this for the rest of my life! The first two months after that were horrible, and I couldn't figure out where all the crap was coming from, given how little I was eating.  And each BM was like giving birth to a 15 pound baby.  I'd be worn out. Now, I'm just trying to stay ahead of the chronic post-RNY constipation.  Other than that, things are mostly back to normal. /Steve

Michael, Early on many folks are “Loose as a Goose” When it comes to crapping. A lot of that is- “Liquid in, Liquid Out.” Do be on the lookout… It can lock-up in an instant. Many go from constant squirts to Trying to pass a granite statue overnight. I used to joke that you could tell an early post-op Because they would have something To stop Diarrhea, and a Laxative In the same shopping cart. Check with your doc (simple call to the office) And they may have some advice to help you out. Rather than taking anything for it like Kaopectate, Try adding a little Simple Fruit Pectin, Like “Sure Jel” – http://www.kraftfoods.com/surejell/sj_index.html or any of those “Home-Made Jam/Jelly” additives. It’s in a powder than mixes easily into any liquid. It slows the movement of food through the intestine (as it is a soluble fiber) Without causing constipation. And can slow or even help prevent “Hair-Trigger Dumping” Later on. Hang in there. It does get much easier. Best Wishes- Dx

Hey Mike - my bowel function was very inconsistent in the beginning.   Some days it would be very "runny" and i'd be in the bathroom several times per day.  Other times i would go 3 to 5 days between BM's and it would be "normal" consistency. I didn't have any constipation issues until i was about 6 months out, either.   And, now at 14 months out (with the Colace and fiber thing figured out), I have 2 BM's per day like clockwork...... Don't sweat it bud - things will get back to normal - you just need to figure it out.   And, talk to your doctor along the way - that's your best overall resource to get a specific plan for what your body needs.

I am 9 days post-op. For the first week I could hit a bullseye at 20 yards but it has slowed down now.

Work is for those who don't know how to fish.

The fourth day after surgery I passed a chunk of the Berlin Wall (least that's what it felt like) and then everything was OK.    I've been pretty much "regular" since, with no problems in that area.   I'm 17 days post op now.
