Vitamin D prevents osteoporosis, depression, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and even effects diabetes and obesity. Vitamin D is perhaps the single most underrated nutrient in the world of nutrition. That's probably because it's free: your body makes it when sunlight touches your skin. Drug companies can't sell you sunlight, so there's no promotion of its health benefits. Truth is, most people don't know the real story on vitamin D and health. Vitamin D is produced by your skin in response to exposure to ultraviolet radiation from natural sunlight.
- The healing rays of natural sunlight (that generate vitamin D in your skin) cannot penetrate glass. So you don't generate vitamin D when sitting in your car or home.
- It is nearly impossible to get adequate amounts of vitamin D from your diet. Sunlight exposure is the only reliable way to generate vitamin D in your own body.
- A person would have to drink ten tall glasses of vitamin D fortified milk each day just to get minimum levels of vitamin D into their diet.

Dave, since Vitamin D is one of the fat-soluble Vitamins, Do you think that reductions in fat in your diet could Be hindering the transport and absorption of it? Just a thought… The Vit D supplement you use? Is it the "Dry" type? Those seem to be "better absorbed" by by-passers. And one last thought… Phosphorus Levels? That whole Vit-D/Calcium utilization thing has phosphorus Playing a key "Go between Role." Maybe look to see if your Blood tests show a lower phosphorus level. (even if it is still in "the normal range.") Awesome to hear you B-12 level news. Does your liquid Multi-Vit a lot of high B-12? Studies have shown that extreme intake of B-12 through really high concentrations in Liver and such Will get it into the system even in the absence Of intrinsic factor. Just not from normal dietary intake. Congratulations on you 2 years!! Keep it Up! Best Wishes- Dx
Steve, I’ve seen someone report the same a few years back. (can’t remember exact who…or what their doc eventually came up with) I don’t have a complete clear grasp on how the phosphorus Figures into the "Calcium/Vit-D Dance" beyond that the D aids the absorption and the proper Calcium/Phosphorus Balance Is responsible for the utilization of the Calcium which is absorbed. Vit-D is the center of so much Med-study these days… improved insulin sensitivity, cancer prevention, etc… My levels were fine when last tested back in January. I have 5 year Labs/Bloodwork at the end of this month. They test me often (2 different docs, each monitoring me separately) I’ll be on the look out…. Best Wishes- Dx
