Need breakfast ideas

Hey-
I work M-F. Generally I drink 16-20 oz. of water before I leave the house in the morning and then drink a cup of decaf tea on the way. I am trying to get into a better routine of taking my pills with food, to help them absorb better and not flush through the pipes. When I get to work, i am ready for some meds and vitamins. I usually have part of a protein bar take my pills (with just a little water) and then eat the rest of the bar. I have also used cottage cheese for this. I can't cook at work, so I am looking for any other food/protein ideas you can share so I have something different to eat and then take the vitamins and meds. I don't do to well with cereal, even the high-protein kind. The carbs in a small bowl of cereal do not agree with me.
I have used the South Beach Denver egg wrap and that worked well, but the stores do not always have them.
I am having a mental block on this. If you have any ideas in this area, I would really appreciate them.
I am coming up on being 6 months out and am down over 120 lbs. As you all know, it is a daily grind to stay in a good place and eat from a good program-- but so worth it.

Thanks
Lou

Hey Lou, I keep a big tub of yogurt in the fridge at work (it's non-fat, either vanilla or strawberry), and a tupperwear tub of plain granola.  That makes a great breakfast that's very easy. I also keep a few "Slim Fast High Protein" shakes in my fridge at home and work.  They are about 190 calories, and 15 grams protein - and a great breakfast replacement a couple days per week (my surgeon recommended the shaked, but only to use 2-3 times per week). I do cottage cheese too, but i put almonds in it to give it a crunch (Blue Diamond BOLD almonds are great - they have garlic/onion, wasabi/soy, salt/vinegar). They are a great snac****ep them in my desk all the time too.  Very easy to munch on, and great source of protein. South Beach Diet makes a couple of good meal replacement bars too. They are very low carb and high protein.  I keep a box of the chocolate/peanut butter bars in my desk in case i have to work through lunch - or want one for breakfast (i never miss breakfast now - i think it's too important to get my metabolism started in the morning). Anyway - those are my staples for work and breakfast.  And, if you are thinking that my desk is full of food - you're right LOL....  It's funny how much planning I do now for my food.  But, i always have the "right food" available - in my desk, my truck, my house, etc.....    Good Luck changing it up - i know that keeping the food ideas fresh is always a challenge... I am enjoying a warm bowl of 1-minute oatmeal with a scoop of chocolate whey protein powder, a diced banana, and a tblspn of clover honey.  I also sometimes have a reduced fat PBand banana sandwich on whole grain wheat bread, or I make myself a strawberry and banana smoothie with a scoop of protein powder.  Sometimes if I'm pushed for time to get to work, I take my vitamins, make my oatmeal and put it in a glad container and carry it to work to eat at my desk.  It really sticks with me, helps me to feel full longer, and keeps the southbound exit open when appropriate water intake is consumed.

Breakfast is the one meal we have to throw everything out the window of what we used to eat.  No more pancakes, hashbrowns, toast, sugar cereal, beacon, ham, ect (or at least not as much).  We always talk about protein first.  A protein shake works.  I use Wendy's Chili (yeh I sound like a one trick pony on that one).  Food from the night or day before in the fridge like vegetable beef or chicken vegetable soups can work.  Like others have said; yogurt, nuts, or even beef jerky can work.  Some steak, chicken or turkey from the fridge.  Frozen shrimp that I defrost in the microwave for 15 seconds and eat plain or with sauce (if it doesn't cause you to dump).  Peanut butter or almond butter, lunchen meat, cheese.  The food is there and can be gotten easy enough.  We just don't think of this stuff for breakfast or at all.  Brian

Two other things.  Cooked vegetables (frozen ones that can be microwaved) from the fridge will help with vitamins and fiber.  Do you men remember this study (about 20 years ago) on what was the # 1 thing college men ate for breakfast??  Day old pizza!!  I'm sure many of us have been there.  Brian

How about some hard boiled eggs

Winner! I boil 18 or so eggs on the weekend and they last through the following week. I just grab a couple and head out the door. I've noticed my son reaching for them instead of junk food as well so that's a nice side benefit... Once at work, I peel them, smash them up and add my favorite hot sauce. Very yummy! I started doing this last week when I started the 3 month diet for my approval. So far, it's working out really well...

I posted something on this a bit ago, so I won't gross y'all out with my cold spinach again

My staples for breakfast are:

*hard boiled eggs

*Toast with cottage-cheese and pepper (mmm...try this one. infinate permutations)

*Cheese sticks with turkey wrapped around them

*protein shake

*Oatmeal with nuts and a little honey

*Plain yogurt w/ granola and w/e fruit is on hand

*Melange: I throw finger things in a tupperware and snack on it for about an hour. But don't make more than a breakfast portion, just eat it slower. Things such as nuts, cheeses, olives, pickles, dolmas, hummas, pita chips, sesame crackers, dried fruits, raw veggies. The trick here is variety. I always try to be protein heavy, with a balance of sweet/salty, crunchy/chewy, and always something with a little kick (usually pickled carrot/cauliflower mixture with spices)

If i know I'm going to have to push lunch a little further, or just feel a little empty I'll make an omlette and put it on a piece of whole wheat toast.

I'm with a few of the others guys on this one. EGGS! Eggs have become a major staple of my diet. The only thing I would add, buy really good ones. Who knows if they are really any healthier for you, but they taste so much better than the cheap ones. Organic Valley free range are probably my favorite. Sometimes I even have them for dinner, mixed with some black beans and salsa. Take care. JP
