Ok...so the day of surgery I weighed 295...down from 310 when I went to my seminar in March. When I got home from surgery I weighed myself and dangit...I weighed 315.  My Dad and a friend who had surgery said it was probably gas and fluid that your body gets from surgery.  Well, today, 5 days post-op I weighed again and I was 295 again!!  I seem to have gotten past most of the gas pain now and hope to really start seeing a difference now.

Sounds pretty normal. Just keep doing what the Doc and Nut tell you to do and the weight will fall off. It has to. At this point, sip and walk. Those two things should be high up on the list. Get in as much protein as you can and it will all make sense after a while.

Michael, There is also a lot of water weight from your IVs.  They load you up while you are in the hospital. I had the same experience of weighing more than when I went in.  But it came offer very quickly.  Yours will too.

I would think that everyone who comes out of the hospital weighing more than they did when they went in.  Like Jim said, they give you so much IV fluid during the surgery (I think I got like 12 liters of fluid through the IV during my 2 days in the hospital).  Also when you have any trauma (i.e. surgery), that part of the body tends to put fluid between the cells (edema), so after WLS the stomach, bowel and abdominal wall can hold quite a bit of fluid, it can take 1 or 2 weeks for this fluid to move back into the blood stream and then the kidneys will be able to get rid of it.

Just remember to walk, sip and rest.  Make sure that you get some form of exercise, it will prevent blood clots from forming in your legs (at least a mile a day, but the more the better, but this does not need to be all at once, believe it or not you will be walking over a mile a day before you know it, and it will feel good).

I am glad to hear you are over the gas pain now, if you are like me you will be feeling better than ever very shortly.

I hope you have a great journey!

Hey Mike, Glad to see you on Men's board!  Just going to echo what has been said - sip, walk and get your rest and your weight will take care of itself.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!
