Walked the dog today without even thinking about it!
Last summer, when my weight peaked out (in recent years, anyway, once weighed 498 about 5 years ago) at 451, I was short of breath from just walking from the house out into the back yard, and I kept chairs placed throughout the yard so I had places to sit down and rest. I'd do a few minutes of yard work, be out of breath, feel like crap, and have to rest for a long time before doing a few more minutes of work.
Today, I had some errands to run, and since it was cloudy and cool, it was safe to take the dog along and leave him in the car for a few minutes. On the way back, I pulled into the back parking lot of the local community college, where there is sort of a nature preserve area. I thought I'd wander a few feet into the woods and see if there were any morel mushrooms in there (yeah, sort of as likely as finding gas for $1.399 a gallon, but just for yucks I looked anyway).
Well, it's kind of steep, hilly terrain, with rough trails. Well, the dog and I wandered around in there for an HOUR, up and down the hills, over logs and rocks, through underbrush, etc., without any second thoughts about it. Got back home, then I worked outside all afternoon, hard, physical labor, without a break.
It's SO amazing what this operation does for us.

That's AWESOME Cosmo!!!!!!!!! I remember when I first started back at the gym and how long i could go on the bike - it's amazing how much stamina we have when we drop the weight!!!!
Thanks for sharing the story - it's great to be reminded of how far we have come, and of what's ahead for those just starting out....

your dog benefits from the surgery too! i was like you in that my feet hurt so bad from the weight i stopped walking the dogs. my g/f had to do it. well, nowadays we run 2.5 miles in the canyons every day and then walk another 2.5 in the same canyons at night. i hardly break a sweat running when it's cool out. i hear ya brother. lifes good. keep it up, it only gets better.....carbonblob
Good for you Dan. When I was pre-op, I barely had the energy to let my dog out the front door much less put a leash on her to walk her. She's passed now, and I recently got a new pup, he's 3 months old now. He's a lazy **** however, and now that I have the energy to go for a 5 mile walk with him, he wont budge. Gotta start crackin the whip a bit. Pic of him on my profile if anyones interested.
Anywho, keep up the good work and be well.
John
