Well Guys, I Did It! My First 10k
That's right. The week at work we are celebrating Correctional Workers' Week with many events throughout the week. Yesterday was our Memorial Service for all the Federal Correctional Workers who have paid the ultimate price and never finished their watch. Then today we had a 5/10K fun run. Last August, six weeks after surgery I started back to working out to include walking on the eliptical trainer and running on the treadmill. I had not worked out for some 6 years. Then as the weather started changing here in Kansas City, I started running outside about a month ago. I was running 3.2 miles once or twice a week.
So today I had to decide. Do I do what I already know I can do or do I go for the distance. I choose to go for the distance - 10K. I thought that I would do it somewhere around 1 hour, 10 minutes. My time was 59 minutes, 56 seconds.
Thanks to all you guys who have posted about your successes with your 5K, 10K, and marathons. Your inspiration gave me the lift I needed to succeed today.
