I know there was a thread earlier about Urso Forte (the med that helps reduce gallstones), I was put on it recently and since I've been taking it, I've had the wateriest diarrhea ever.  Then again, I'm on normal foods now and I'm trying different things all the time.   Did anyone else have that side effect?  Did it go away?

PDX, It could be a form of ‘Bile-Salts Diarrhea’ which is Common following Gallbladder removal. Could be connected, worth a question/phone call to your doc on Monday. My thought is that the Urso creates more "flow" of bile To clear out the formation of stones and therefore could be the cause… For that issue, Here’s some info on Bile Salt Diarrhea that I happened to have….. ------------------------------------------- Bile Salt Diarrhea is fairly rare. Only about 5% of people having their gallbladders removed develop it. And there’s no real evidence of it being any more of a problem for WLS patients having their gallbladders removed, than non-WLS patients. That lack of G-Bladder to store the excess produced by the liver can (in very few people) create a condition by emptying excess bile salts between meals. The extra bile salts can sometimes overpower the small intestines' ability to reabsorb them. The extra moves straight on into the colon, and the bile acts like a laxative, leading to diarrhea. Like I said, it is relatively rare, And there is not a specific diagnostic test for this condition. The Dr. can diagnose bile salt diarrhea by ruling out other possible causes of diarrhea such as infection, colitis, cancer, and others. It can be disconcerting because there is not an actual "Cure" for "Bile Salt Diarrhea." But, there are several very effective treatments. The most common treatment/med is cholestyramine. On the market as- Locholest, Locholest Light, Prevalite, Questran, Questran Light. Also a pill form called Colestid. This is a bit of an issue for WLS patients because Cholestyramine gets in the way of, or decreases the absorption of vitamins. Usually not a problem because it can be taken at a different time (by 3 hours) from Vitamin supplements. Some docs just prescribe an over the counter like Imodium in conjunction with Fiber supplements like Citrucel in order to get the non-constipation/diarrhea balance. Some folks have B.S. Diarrhea for the first couple of weeks post gallbladder surgery and then it goes away. Back when my father had his Gallbladder removed he had difficulty early on, and one thing that really helped was Simple Fruit Pectin, Like "Sure Jel" – http://www.kraftfoods.com/surejell/sj_index.html or any of those "Home-Made Jam/Jelly" additives. They slow the movement of food through the intestine And can slow or even help prevent "Hair-Trigger Dumping." If it lasts for more than the first 3 months, it is likely to be a chronic (repeating again- Rare) Condition. It is very controllable with these preparations/medications however. Hope this random info helps … Best Wishes- Dx

I took another medication for 3 months after surgery to reduce the chance of getting gall stones, it was called Urisdol.  I didn't have any problems with it.  I wonder if it is the same thing you are taking, if not, you might want to talk to your Dr about it.
