Chantix ???

Im curious, Im on a 6 month supervised diet because thats what Aetna requires before I can have surgery. If I take Chantix to quit smoking will it cause me to gain even more weight ?

Doc, I’ve had 4 co-workers stop smoking using Chantix. One was Normal sized, the other three (slightly to ‘somewhat’) overweight to start with. None of them had weight gain or increased eating from it, But they all quit, and stayed quit. 10 to 20year smokers too. The ‘drawbacks’ that I have heard were like the post below…. Crazy dreams more often, And some mild nausea at first. Hope all works out great for you. Best Wishes- Dx

I'm on Chantix now and my smoking desire has decreased dramatically.  It's the best thing going to help you stop.  I know some hard-core smokers who've stopped with the help of this drug. The vivid dreams are a great side-affect. Last night my dream was awesome!  I was captured by Chinese soldiers along with a room full of other guys. They had us sitting on the floor with our guns laying on the ground in front of us. There were 2 Chinese soldiers in the front of the room, and one by one they would order a guy to stand up and walk up to the front where they were. When he got up there they would slit his throat and he would fall to the floor and bleed out. I was in the back of the room.. and one by one the guys were walking up and getting slaughtered. Seeing that my turn was soon to come, and knowing my fate, I grabbed my gun from off the floor and raised it and pulled the trigger...click!  Nothing happened. I realized that I hadn't yet chambered a round into the action yet. The Chinese 2 heard the click and saw what my intentions were. As they raised their rifles to take me out...I chambered the first round and fired about 3-4 rounds into each guy.  I then released the banana-clip from my gun and put a fresh clip into it and walked up to the front and put another round into both of them.  Next thing I knew I was running down the hall trying to make my escape when I came upon a Chinese woman who was about to sound the alarm that I was escaping. I beat her over the head several times with the butt of my gun and ran out the door. There was an open field in front of me with a forest in the distance. I ran for it and made it safely. On the other side of the forest was a friendly little village with people walking all about just doing their daily business. They were not Chinese...more like Dutch or something. I knew I was safe. I might've been in Amsterdam............PARTY!! So aside from some wild dreams, I would surely recommend Chantix.

It's not unusual to gain a bit of weight regardless of the method used to quit smoking, but probably not much more than about 10 pounds.

Chantix works for many people, but for me it did not.  In some cases (including mine) it can cause em...what I can only describe as mildly crazy behavior.  I quit taking it and the symptoms subsided almost immediately.

Don't  despair, you can quit and it's the best thing to do before your surgery.  Best of luck to you.

It has been linked to depression and suicidal behavior. They think it's related to how it blocks the pleasure center in the brain. Just be carefull and try to notice if you feel different.
