MRI?

I need to have an MRI scan done....butttt I have titanium staples in my stomach....so what do I do? Is this safe, have any of you had to have an MRI (after surgery of course)?

My understanding is that titanium isn't affected by magnetic fields, so it's safe in a MRI (your staples won't be ripped from your body.)  Tell your MD and/or the MRI tech, of course, but I don't think there will be any problems. /Steve

Lance, Several trips through the MRI since surgery for me. With staples, and a Artificial Aortic Heart Valve. Mine is titanium coated with pyrolytic carbon. (like Wolverine’s Adamantium…)  Shown 2/3 actual size.

Never been a problem. Just inform the technicians first And they will make sure.

What are they scanning you for? Everything going ok? Or is this more Back work? Hope you are fixed soon. Best Wishes- Dx

Umm well, my ct I had done came back abnormal so I have to have an MRI done on my L-spine. Pain radiates into my left leg/down back of calf/into ankle and hurts upon sitting/standing/laying, etc. Been going on for months now lol just trying to figure out what's going on with my body, you'd think after losing 70lbs I'd be doing okay in pretty much all depts!

That Suks! Till they get the wiring fixed, Look into a TENS Unit to help deal with the pain. Effective, and not life draining as the pain meds can be. (I had one for nearly a year, and it was a God-send) Best Wishes- Dx

I have staples in me.....internal ones.  Anyway...it doesn't effect the MRI...just let the tech know.  As for the back pain...join the club...I lost 300 lbs and got to goal and it didn't resolve my back issues.  It's important to note that herniated disks will not "un" herniate because you lose weight.....
