Hi guys. 6 days and counting til my open RNY. I need some help with supplements. I've read about liquid vitamins and chewables, etc. Can someone be kind enough to share with me what it was you took right after surgery? Maybe even recommend a specific brand? I would need a supplement with iron as I have mild anemia. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Matt

Walgreens multi-vitamin is the smallest  round little pill I found and used rather than the nasty chewables.  Brown bottle with silver label and red writing,...cheap price too.  18 mg iron each.  I started with 1, then went to 2 a day, then at 3 a day they told me to switch to a prenatal multi-vitamin that has 28 mg of iron per pill.  I take 2 of those a day; Brand name - One Source; pink pill. I get them at Walmart along with my other vitamins and supplements.

I had enough of large vitamin pills, so I searched out a liquid vitamin. I started with Vemma, but the cost of $60 a month (plus shipping) got to be too much. I looked further, and found the GBG 10-in-One liquid vitamin that is about $30 a month, including shipment. One ounce per day, tastes like an orange punch, and my vitamin D levels that had "tanked" before (even with the 50K IU prescription supplements) were not in the nomral range. Look at my profile page to see web site for more information.  There are testimonials on there from real people, most from OH, who use them too.  These are shipped to you every month on an autoship basis, and payment is either by credit card or checking account debit.  Another testimonail was placed there today too.

I am 3 weeks out from a lap RNY.  My Doc has me taking a Centrum chewable a day, 1000 mcg B12 sublingual (under the tongue), B complex tablet, protein supplement for 2 months, Calcium Citrate. Also biotin.

Many start out with something as simple as a couple of Flintstones Chewables and then move on to more substantial Supplementation when their pouch is healed. For me?   So far? So good. Nearly 5 years and no deficiency problems. It sounds "Crazy Complex" when I write it all out, But it’s just sort of "reach in the drawer and follow the routine" sort of practice, …I’m sort of on autopilot. I take a B-12 shot once a month. A "Fortify" Multi-Vitamin every morning. It’s a huge pill, not intended as a chewable, but I chew it anyway. Iccckk! But it’s over soon. (but then, I don't eat it for the flavor....) Every other day, this is joined by a "multi-Bio-Support" capsule, which melts quickly in water and it contains "Meta-Vitamins and Co-Enzymes," [NADH, carnitine / acetyl-l-carnitine, coenzyme Q10, and alpha-lipoic acid.] (my sister sends these to me, she’s a major nutri-geek!) Also, 3 days a week I take an Iron capsule, prescription (poly-Iron 150) I take a Vitamin C with it. I was taking it every day, but my doc pulled back my dosage as my levels were heading up. They’ve stayed level now for the last 4 years. At lunch I take both a B-1 and a folate with my lunch Or Calcium Citrate- 315mg. W/ Vit-D whichever not taken at lunch, then that night before bed. Depends on my work schedule, but bedtime is my check to make sure. I started on one type of Calcium, moved to 630mgs of Calcium Citrate, and then, as with the iron, my doc backed off my dosage. I do eat a lot of cottage cheese, yogurt, and have skim milk and such and apparently my Calcium levels are perfect without taking in much supplements. Well, that what I do for Vitamins, Plus 2 or 3 B-50’s if I’m having a stressful week, and I’ll take an extra Chewable Vitamin C any time I don’t eat fruit that day, Or if everyone around me is coming down with a cold or flu… (like last month!) I don’t know if upping my C’s and B’s helps, but it doesn’t hurt. I have my labs done TOO Often because two different docs are watching my levels And apparently they can’t "take the other one’s word" for any of it. My PCP is monitoring my Coumadin and Cholestrol levels so she feels obligated to check for malabsorption – malnutrition cause I’m "One of those Gastric By-Pass-People," And my Bariatric surgeon checks me between her labworks Because he’s certain she’ll "miss something" Because she’s "just a General Practitioner" and not a Gastroenterologist. It works out that they are on split schedules, so I’m tested about every 3 months. Some additional info in this Old- VitaminTip-Thread This has worked great FOR ME. I may have good labs IN SPITE OF what I’m doing. But, as long as it keeps working, I’ll keep "working it." Best Wishes- Dx

I take Optisource chewable that I get from Walgreens online. $27 or $28 for a months supply, shipped for free. With that being said, this is one of two that my Nut. recomends. I would think that your surgeon or Nut. would have some that they recomend, that was all covered in my pre op class and educational materials that they gave me.  pan head
