Is this a fart?

Last weekend, starting Wednesday, and returning late Sunday night with Monday as a day of putting things away at home, the wife and I went to a blacksmithing event that I helped to put on. I was working most of the event though some of my duties were to record on DVD, one demonstration for 3 days amongst taking care of moving equipment, putting out the small fires of emergencies that came up and taking care of the needs of the demonstration area that I was assigned to, I was kept pretty busy the whole weekend.

I took over a ton (2000#) of equipment of my own to the event and had to load it, unload it then load it and unload it and put it away myself over the course of the weekend, not to mention moving a lot of it around as needed thought the weekend.

I felt that I was eating non-stop. I would take a normal meal that was given to everyone and for the most part I was able to eat it, after taking out the starches such as large bread rolls for sandwiches (eating just the meat and vegetables) and potato salad etc. This would take from 1 ½ to 2 hours for the meal and I would never really feel full, I would slow down eating when I started to get that feeling but only rarely would I get the STOP message from the stomach. I would treat things like grapes and oranges as either a liquid or a food, depending on what I needed more at the time. I did drink a LOT of water as it was hot and I even ate the REGULAR, ice-cream (sometimes two of them) with the dinner meal.

I felt that I was really blowing my rules but I was hungry MOST OF THE TIME!!

When I got home, I approached the scale with a little dread but I had to know how I did over the 4 days that we were at the event. The result was that I had LOST 5#!!! This was a real shock to me because I felt that I was eating like a pig! I guess I was working so much that I really needed the energy and the body knew what it needed.

A real fart did indeed happen though as I needed to move from one venue to another quickly and I did RUN, yes RUN for the first real time in over 20 years! I just bounced along and thought to myself, HEY, THIS IS FUN!! I NEED TO DO MORE OF THIS!!!

A FARTastic if you ask me. Great job all around with the physical work you put in but especially the RUNNING afterwards! Awesome job, Cal!  By the way, the more you exert yourself physically, the more food your body needs (and wants, thus the hunger) but it all works out in the end (i.e. calories needed vs. calories burned). The important thing to remember is to try to focus on eating good "fuel" during your exercise which your body can then use for energy. Ice cream ain't such a good fuel but "easier said than done" I know. Way to FART! Boner

Congratulations! Ain’t it cool that this surgery Keeps on Working? Folks sometimes forget that a mal-absorption component Continues. Throwing out the bread from Normal Meals Is my typical M.O. Been working Great at keeping me at a Normal range BMI. Great to hear you are doing well. (having a Blacksmith in our club adds much ‘cool-factor.’) Keep it Up! Best Wishes- Dx

Thanks guys, I guess it is indeed MILES away from where I was only 1 1/2 years ago! I am back to my normal schedule of eating and drinking with all the normal feelings of fullness that go along with this schedule. I guess the energy I was using was indeed qutie a bit. I have put back on 2 of those pounds but I am sure that most of the loss was water anyway, the good thing is that I didn't go the other way and put weight on. I know that regular ice cream is not good and as a rule I don't eat it, I AM THE KING OF S.F. POPCICLES THOUGH!  I do weigh twice a day to keep a handle on my weight, once in the morning and once before bed. The morning weigh in is always about a pound to a pound and a half less than the night before, I don't know where the weight goes though as I do not **** out that much weight in the morning though!! I have been stable more or less now since December. At the beining of December,  I was 190# and over that month I went down to about 185 and have stayed there + or - 3# ever since except for the one time dip to 179.5# in Feb and after last weekend. I guess I will remain at 185# and that is not such a bad thing AT ALL! Going from 368 to this weight and from a 56 pant and 3-4XL shirts to a 34 inch waist and L or XL shirts is simply a different life. When asked about the differences that is the only way to describe it, A DIFFERENT LIFE! Those of you just starting out and those who are in process, keep with the program it is SO WORTH THE EFFORT!

The part about "it is SO WORTH THE EFFORT", I couldn't agree more with that statement.  34 pants, L shirts, I'm right there myself. Although, I wish my body would drop down to onederland. I'm 6'3" tall, and am a large build, so I don't think its going to happen for me. I'm not unhappy with my size, just wish I could hop on the scale and see a weight starting with a "1." I'm still dropping up to a pound a month, so maybe  by 2010 I'll make it down there.  I don't have to worry much about the ice cream, the surgery made me lactose intolerant. I used to absolutely LOVE ice cream, too. Cookies on the other hand....... Ron

Well, better late than never,....??????  I would have to disagree with this being a fart. It sounds more like 3 or 4 farts all piled on top of each other over a weekend.  Lifting loading and unloading, running, eating meals prepared by someone else not targeted at post-op WWLS patients,....ice cream,...ICECREAM??? the feaking real stuff??? You Kidding me??? No dumping??? And ending with weight loss????  Thats just,...inhuman You are the man Master Blacksmith.
