Another newbie question....when I was at orientation they mentioned that there would be hair loss....for anyone who has had RNY did you experience this? Do you lose it in clumps or just a little? Does it come back after a while? thanks

Hey Rhino, I had real thick and fast growing hair before surgery August 20.  Then things went South and I was in a coma, and kinds of scary things happened to me, trauma ways.  Now, 7 mos. out and facing another surgery, I still have hair, it doesn't grow as fast as it once did and is not as thick as it once was, but anytime you have a change in diet and nutrition, its going to affect your body chemistry, but in time when you have adjusted your diet and protein needs, the hair loss will slow to its natural rhythms.  Anyway, thats my 2 cents. I never lost a hair. I did keep my protein levels high and genetics play a huge role in how much, if any, hair will turn loose. This seems to be a much larger problem for women than men. Keeping hair short during the rapid weightloss phase puts less strain on it and less is likely to “break off.” It does grow right back. [edited to add]- *See Post Above..... Best Wishes- Dx

Haven't lost a hair.  Only problem I have like that is really dry skin.

I didn't lose hair, persay, but it thinned for the first couple of months.. especially during the liquid and mush phase of the diet.. but once I was able to eat protein and keep it up, it's been great. My wife had an issue with it after her surgery and she started taking Biotin.. it's helped too.

I lost a lot of hair the first 6 months after WLS and attributed it to the lack of protein. Once I started amping up the protein, it all grew back. I've fallen off the protein wagon here the last 3 or 4 months and I've noticed it falling out again. I hope increasing my protein works again this time but it may just be a sign that I'm starting to go bald in my old age.
