Here is our creed, if you fit this you are a wls LW and we hope you will join us on the LW forum Here is the link http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/wls_lightweights/ The Lightweight Creed (Created and approved by members of the OH Light-Weights Forum, Jan 2008)

I am a Lightweight. I am only one of many others like me. Together, we are a team. Though our journeys and choices may be different, we are bonded together by the commonality of being Lightweights and the strategies, successes and struggles that entails. It is this bond that defines this board.

I began my journey with a BMI of less than 45 and/or with less than 150 lbs excess weight. My lower BMI and excess weight does in no way make me less deserving of medical intervention, and I should not be made to feel inferior or guilty.

I qualified for WLS because I have co-morbidities, or because my medical history proves that my weight is diet and exercise resistant.

I have worked with my healthcare team to determine the best surgical option for me. I am confident that others have done so as well, so I will refrain from passing judgments.

I will freely share the most accurate information I have, as well as my own personal journey and why I chose my surgery in an informative, educational and respectful way so that others may learn from my experiences.

I respect the decisions of my fellow Lightweights, regardless of the surgery they chose and the nutritional/exercise plans they follow.

I will always promote health and a healthy lifestyle, whether physical or mental; and will respect alternate methods and views toward achieving good health, even if I do not espouse them personally.

I will always be sensitive, honest and respectful when contributing to discussions on this board and in my PMs. I will never flame, demean, invalidate or harass others for their questions or decisions. I will remember, at all times, the difficulties and pain I went through on my own journey and be considerate of others when discussing theirs.

I will always defend and unite with my fellow Lightweights against prejudice and hostility.

I understand it is my responsibility to report offensive conduct to my fellow Lightweights, so that we may deal with offending parties as a united front to preserve the supportive and tolerant atmosphere of our board.

I understand that if my conduct becomes offensive, I will not be welcome to participate on this board any longer.

George, The recent 60 minute segment on WLS Featured the fact that WLS maybe a “Cure” For type two diabetes no matter the weight of the individual. Hey, it’s all about attaining a healthy life. No Matter the “starting point.” Heavyweights, Lightweights…. It’s all the same battle.   Great to see people Saving their Lives! But, if your "conduct becomes offensive?" So What?  Life is full of offensive elements. Guys will quickly "Get Over It." Jump On in. Best Wishes- Dx

Hmmmm..... I guess that I haven't experienced any negative comments regarding my starting weight (260 day of surgery) so I haven't really felt the need for a specific "creed" to deal with it.  Were I to receive any smack about my business I would simply revert to my one-size-fits-all "Go **** Thyself " creed.  The creed listed above smells a little like self-victimization, in my opinion.  You are welcome to borrow my creed in retort, if you disagree

I hope you don't have a copyright on your one size fits all creed, cause I've been known to use it myself on occasion. I'd hate to be in violation of the law, or owe you some royalties or some kinda **** like that.

Sounds like whining to me.  I knew I could count on Baja to express a "group consciousness"! CB

As much as I like to think of myself as a "trend setter", breaking new ground intellectually and  what-not, I cannot take credit for coining this phrase. I am sure that the first caveman uttered some semblance this snappy rejoiner, when confronted with dialogue deemed offensive from one of his brethren.

well, with all due respect, i did go over and introduce myself, being a lightweight and all. i was welcomed with open arms by 99% over there. since it's mostly women they were glad to finally get a man's perspective. we joked around and sure enough, i used the term "girls", in fun and got blasted about there only being "women" blah blah over there. some of the ladies came to my defense but it just showed me one thing. don't stray off this board no matter what.

remember the scene in apocolyse now where they got off the boat and a tiger jumped out at them and nearly ate them? all the guy kept saying is, never get off the god damn boat! yeah, that's me. sorry. i've never been blasted over here for anything concerning my journey or personal problems. also, i sure wouldn't report anyone for expressing how much they hate my guts and want me dead. heck, that's the fun part over here. we really go at each other sometimes and a few have left but stop to think about it, we have guys from every walk of life here and we all get along. i didn't last more than one post over there. again, it's a great forum, i just don't belong over there. i couldn't be myself. i couldn't even say the word girls! so good luck but i'll stay here. no offense really.....carbonblob

I might be tempted to go back over there and throw a "****" or two around, and maybe "hussy", "****", "bint",  and "*****" to boot. By the time you get through, "girls" won't seem like a big deal. I guess if some woman called me a boy I'd be mildly amused.  My response would have to be, "Boys have toys. I have a tool. Wanna see?"

yep, such a crisis over a single word. you know i was careful to always say what was pc when i replied to all over there. i used the term girls to a playful post about being the only rooster in the hen house kind of thing. next thing you know, it's "we're women and ladies, not girls" bs. that poster apologized but it was enough for me to see i wouldn't last one more post. my god, how sensitive can you get? i even pointed out it was in jest and all my other posts used the term women. i'm with you, i really wanted to blast her but then i would probably have to change my email, avitar, OH name and move due to the abuse i would have to endure. so it's just easier to stay over here and avoid that board like it's the main board. i just can't stand it that you can't voice ANY type of opinion on this site without offense unless it's here. when did people become so fragile? when did they lose their backbone? when did they think they were entitled and privilaged? if i stood up for myself and talked like baja i'm sure i would be dead by now. that's a shame because most of the women over there were very cool and i dare say would be as fun to talk to as you guys...carbonblob
