WLS-Friendly Items At Olive Garden Not On Menu (Shhhhh!)
I ate out last night to celebrate an unusually good $$ work week .. My brother selected Olive Garden, and I was reluctant to go, knowing how the last time I had Italian pasta it was NOT a pleasant experience the next day .. &:-x)
Whle enduring a 25-minute wait for seating, I noticed some brochures that OG had stacked over by a bookshelf in their reception area. The brochure explained how OG has options available for diners who are seeking low-fat, low-carb, low-sugar, or gluten-free selections ..
As to low-carb, the pamphlet seemed to suggest that you can opt for whole-wheat linguini in place of pasta on any of their dishes .. This is esp. great for us DSers, since we tend to bloat and gas on regular flour pasta .. As to low-sugar, the brochure pointed out that the "torta di chocolate" dessert - a small round piece of chocolate cake with a whitish sweet sauce on the side and fresh strawberry slices - can be ordered in a "no sugar added" version. The dish is apparently made with sugar esters instead of real sugar (e.g. Manitol, Sorbitol, etc.), therefore containing like 43 grams of sugar alcohols .. Good news for RNYers trying to avoid dumping!
As to low-fat items, the menu points out which of their dishes (e.g. minestrone soup, low-fat salad dressing, etc.) fits in that category (they also say to look for the little "olive branch symbol" next to items on their menu, which signifies that the food item is 'low fat" ..)
Don't know why OG doesn't mention all this info. and alternatives in their menu, but they don't ...
