Yesterday I experimented for the first time in 1.5 years with soda.  I was stuck in a situation where i really needed the caffiene and had a diet mout dew.  Everything went down fine and I was great from 330pm to 10 pm when i went to bed.  When I went to bed the gas started and I was in some serious discomfort for an hour or so. I am assuming that it was the soda as everyhting else in my diet was the same.  Is it normal for the gas problem to take this long (6 hours) from the cause? I think it might be another 1.5 years until i try another soda especially a 20Oz bottle. Thanks Jim D

Jim, My first couple of years, Soda would cause so much gurgling and gas that it wasn’t at all worth the discomfort.  For me, it would cause early gurgling and bloated feelings, then later, crampy gas pains some times.  (even up to 6 hours later) Now at 5 years out, it still causes minor issues, but not too bad. Enough to keep sodas from being a common choice to drink. Some items have lower carbonation, and others taste fine after they have gone mostly flat. My trick was pouring it back and forth from one glass to the next, or shaking a bottle and keeping my thumb over the end to let the gas out without spewing soda all over. I’m really skilled at getting a drink flat in a hurry. I still only rarely have a carbonated beverage. Mostly SF Rockstar that I “flatten” just a bit. Plain ole “Can of Diet Coke,” would still be a gut boiler. Best Wishes- Dx
