Maintaining Weight? (Edited)

Had to edit original post.  Seems I had my starting weight as only 258 not 458. Seems I had a blonde moment.  I keep telling my girlfriend that all the blonde hair dye she uses is killing my brain cells too.
Hey Guys, I have a question?  I am currently 19 months post-op from my RNY and have lost 239 pounds.  Started at 458 on the day of surgery and am currently at 219.  several months ago when I saw my surgeon I was 249 and he said he was satisfied and I could stop if I wanted.  I told him I wanted to lose a little more and he was fine with it.  The next time I saw him I was at 239 and he said to stop there. I dropped a bit further down to where I was holding steady at 226-231 from week to week.  then several weeks ago I started dropping again.  granted I was sick for a week or so and that could account for some of it.  I went as low as 213 and have rebounded to 219 currently. Since surgery I have developed Reactive Hypoglycemia which my Internist confirmed with a Glucose Tolerance Test.  I eat 6-8 small meals a day and am careful not to consume simple carbs in order to keep my blood sugar stable. My question is:  How do I maintain my current weight and not drop any more weight?  I am constantly eating and feel like I eat more than I should be.  Any advice would be helpful. Thanks, -Steve

Steve, Congratulations on your Success. I’ve been maintaining for right at 4 years now. (lost to Normal BMI around 13th month post-op) I also eat 6 to 7 "meals" a day Sometimes they divide into 3 meals/ 4 snacks Sometimes the line is too blurry…. I found by upping my intake of good fats- Mono and poly-unsaturated fats and Essential Fatty Acids That my calorie intake could be moderated to keep me sitting in around a 5 lb. range without adding significant volume or decreasing it drastically to maintain fairly constant weight. Just curious….BMI?  How tall are you? What did the doctor use to determine a "goal range" for you weight? Best Wishes- Dx

Dx Thanks for the advice.  I am 6'3" and weigh 219.  That puts my BMI at 27.  I thought I should go lower but doc says no.  He says BMI chart is good for someone shorter but for that the taller you are the more skewed the numbers are.  When I first saw him Pre-op he said he wanted me to get to 210.  But when I hit 250 he seemed to think I was getting close to where I should be.  Says if I went as low as BMI chart wants me I would look like a refugee. I checked an online Ideal Body Weight Calculator which takes several things into account (not just height) and it seems I am right in the normal range. I will try increasing the fats like you suggested.  I was just concerned because I was stable within a 4-5 pound range from week to week and then the weight started coming off again.  Started in a 56 waist and am currently in a 34-36 depending on the brand.  Am very satisfied but want to maintain and stay healthy. Thanks Again

Congratulations!  In your wildest dreams, did you think you would ever have to worry about being too thin?
