The Amazing Cruise Ship Diet!
Well my wife and I got back last Wednesday morning from our cruise to the Mexican Riviera... and I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I usually don't go for these types of canned "McAdventures", preferring to explore on my own via 4WD & pavement, rather than to be trapped with folks learning their first words of Spanish ("ooooo-noe-maas talk-koe, poor-fuh-vor seeen-yor") and complaining because the common buffet doesn't cater to their particular tastes.
The good news is that today I weighed in 8 lbs. lighter than on our 4/8 departure date
I'll get to the bad news later
The best part was getting to see the mainland for the first time with my wife
meeting some of the locals
our Rhino excursion (I want one!)
and seeing some beautiful sites along the way
Now the bad news is that my ship turns out to have been re-infected with Norovirius
My decrease in weight came at the price of high fever, chills, racking pain in the stomach / joints / cabeza..... and I am now halfway through day five of my most powerful hershey-squirt binge to date
I'd use my handy stool chart to indicate the "Type".... but it doesn't go up that high. I'd have puked too, if I had eaten the first two days of malady. I do think that that I have finally turned the corner, though.... and am back on the mend.
I have spent the last few days horizontal, with a toilet in close proximity.... and have been chugging gallons of water to keep from becoming dehydrated.
We were not entirely surprised by this event, as we had read passenger reviews from previous voyages noting that Noro outbreaks had occurred on the ship (and other cruise lines). But none had been reported on our ship's Feb. & Mar. cruises - so we gambled that they had the outbreaks cleaned up..... but we would have gone anyway.
If left up to NCL, no notification of recent infections would have been given. Your average passenger's first indication of prior infections is a non-descript pamphlet left in their stateroom - and it is extremely vague in detail. By the time that a passenger sees the information they have already gone through a lengthy boarding process, it's about an hour before cast-off, and their luggage may or may not have been delivered to their cabin.... if they have bothered to visit it prior to hitting the bars and topside party.
A courtesy email from NCL would have probably been appreciated by those who did not do their own research. As I have learned from my research, NCL won't be providing compensation for this, you know that NCL will be receiving a few choicely-worded emails from me
Anyhooo..... the good thing is that I stayed healthy until late the last night, so I wasn't down for the count during our limited port time. And we really did have a good time

man any more toxic waste from you, and Al Gore will have to make another movie
get well
I'd buy one tomorrow if I had a spot to store it at my crib
Toy storage in the OC runs too high, and our ASSociation is run by Nazis, so no chance of storing one here... besides, I'd have to lose the hog to make space for it.
There is a looming RV and toy storage rental space crisis on the horizon here in the OC. Most folks here store their rigs at the now-defunct El Toro Marine Base - which is being converted into our Great Park. The base offered low rent storage for years, and there are at least a thousand RVs stored there. After they get the boot, the cost of local storage will go through the roof. And you can't even think of parking a rig in your driveway (think HOA) or the street (local ordinances) .... so the only choice is to sell cheap (gutted market for gas-guzzlers) or store it cheaper further inland.
If you are looking for a good deal on an RV, check out the market here in Orange County in about 8 months.
