Okay hey gang.  I'm a month and a week or so out (finally lol) and right now I'm eating these new-to-me things called Morning Star chik'n nuggets....they are made from an all soy complex or some mess.  My concern or question or however you guys interpret it is this.  Has anyone ever eaten "soy" products such as the nuggets?  And also, kind of unrelated....whenever I eat ANYTHING, okay, it feels sort of like after I swallow it, it sort of sits in my stomach for a good....5 minutes?  I haven't timed it, but that's what it feels like anyway.  That it's just sitting there or something and I was wondering whether this is "normal" or how I should feel about that happening.  I mean I chew my food until it's basically just saliva so I'm just kind of wondering is that RNY patient's "full" feeling is? or what.  Thanks!  OH and I guess I had a sort of revelation the other day....I fit into a size 42 for the first time in 2 or more years! Go me.

Havn't tried anything soy yet, but thats what happens to me when I eat tuna and saltines.  If I eat about 3 of them, I get full and it sits there in my pouch anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes until its start moving... during this time, I don't want to eat anymore, and thats the point.  Think of the pouch like a funnel shape with a tiny hole on the bottom... if you fill it with thick stuff like tuna or tofu or eggs, it'll sit there until it digest some more.  That's why they tell us not to drink, cuz it just flushes it through and you get hungry again.  If you feel pain, then you didn't chew well enough... or you can always throw up to stop the pain (thats happen to me a couple of times because I didn't chew well enough) Congrats on your weight loss.

Okay awesome, yeah I've been a big wuss lately and have just been drinking crystal light.....and taking my vitamins and stuff and that's really all.  I fixed tuna like 2 weeks ago and I'm just now trying these soy nuggets.  I had some Wendy's chili but I couldn't really chew their fake meat so that didn't work too well.  Haven't tried saltines yet, never was big on crackers anyway.  I just eat the tuna plain lol.

OH and yeah thanks, you too on the weightloss I was fat as a house.  I've lost nearly 60lbs I'm freakin' happy about that!  But I'm not really caring one way or the other, just as long as it continues to go DOWN and not up I'm fine with however fast or slow I lose it.

Yeah I'm trying to avoid going to Wendys even if they sell chili... fast food was a huge pain my ass... literally.  But the canned stuff is good. Looks like you and I are about 8 days apart on surgery, I'm down 49lbs, I was stuck in a stall the past week and finally the scale moved today *shakes fist*

I eat soy/tofu products all the time (both pre- and post-op) and it should be okay. Of course, you have to listen to what your body's telling you so if it isn't agreeing, don't do it or just take it a little slower. Morning Star products are great, just keep an eye on the sodium count as those processed foods can get up there.

I bought the Chick'n Tenders (not the nuggets) once post-op.  They're weren't bad at all, though I'd never mistake them for chicken! I also like their soy burgers, which come in several different flavors.  And be sure to try their textured vegetable protein; I think they're called "crumbles".  They can be used anywhere you'd use lean ground beef.  I put 2/3 cup in a can of soup and nuke it in the microwave for a quick and easy high-protein lunch or dinner. Yep, when you begin to switch for non-pureed, not-liquid foods, especially meats, they tend to sit in your pouch for a while.  That's normal, especially if you're not feeling uncomfortable. /Steve

I eat the boca burgers, they are a soy product. Like was said above, you wouldn't mistake them for real meat, but as far as the veggie/soy type burgers, I think these are as good as it gets.   They do seem to fill me up quicker and longer than regular beef does.   Scott

That feeling you are talking about is the fullness feeling.  It is amazing isn't it.  It is unreal how certain foods will sit on your stomach like a brick and others will float on through.  For me, things like fruit are easy to ingest and go down smoothly.  But dam, if I eat an egg or one chicken strip, my body says stop immediately.  There is absolutely no more room to pack anymore in - thank god for protein shakes.  I have learned to love them because I do what kpduryan ( I know I butchered his name on spelling, but it was the best I could do on short notice ) stated he does - and that is to make it into a shot and get it down in one or two swallows.  That is some of the best advice anyone has given me on this forum.  I don't spend an arm and a leg on special pre-made drinks or bullets.  The powder is cheap by comparison to the other things.  Anyway, keep on keepin on.   Taz

You mean just "shooting" the protein powder? How does that work? It would be paste if you didn't add enough water/milk to it I would imagine.
