We'll be back here at the ranch waiting on pens and needles to hear from you. See you on the other side.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
Hey Bob,
I can still remember what the night before was like for me. The wondering, waiting, etc. The morning of the surgery I was so nervous, of course, did it go smooth, NO! The nurse couldn't get the IV going in none of the 8 places she tried. I ended up having the IV put into my neck. Nothing better to take your anxiety to the next level. Before I knew it was over. I only remember being very sleepy. Four short hours later the nurse came in to get me out of bed. Did it hurt to get up, HELL YES! It wasn't unbearable though. The walking hurts at first, but it gets better. The down time in the room leaves much time to think about not being able to eat and drink. My doc allowed me to swish icy cold water in my mouth, then spit it into a cup. I've never not drink so much water in my life. Just the motion of drinking and feeling the water in my mouth made it seem as though I was drinking. Don't worry too much about not being able to eat, you won't have any desire at all to eat anyway. My doc waits 2 full days before allowing a liquid diet. Before I knew it, I was home. The thing that was most discouraging to me was getting home and being, and feeling, even more fat that before surgery. To my surprise, at my 2 week doctors appt., I had lost 29 pounds. Are you freakin' kidding me? In two weeks! Of course, don't get to used to that rapid of loss, but do get ready for some fairly rapid loss. A lot more loss than you've experienced in the past. The first months are a little difficult to get through. First you have to get past your food demons. I did anyway. Then you have to get used to eating very small portions. It's odd at first, but gets easier daily. Before you know it, you'll be online late one night explaining what your experience was like a year and half ago. Have the best tomorrow and get back here and let us know how your doing.

Hey Bama. You're gonna do great man! Just remember that the surgery is the easy part. Before you know it you'll be suffering through the damn liquid diet and waiting for the day you can eat mush again. Once you get to the egg and soft food stage it's SMOOTH sailing from there.
Best of luck on your journey!
