Are [men] being told to take iron?

You should get lab work before automatically taking Iron. My test results showed that I was so over-influxed with red blood cells and Iron that I have to go in every week and have a pint of blood drained out of me.  I would say that the answer to this question varies from person to person.

Oh, nice try, but my surgeon has turned out to be a complete loser (I'm in the process of finding another one), and they never did labs before putting me on iron.  I know the dangers of iron for men, and I did not question it initially, but there have been so many missteps with the surgeon that I am now questioning anything and everything. I'm not, nor have I ever been, iron deficient... and they have not done any labs since BEFORE surgery 4 months ago. The answer here seems to be that this should be a decision made based on labs where men are concerned.

I was told to ask about B12 and Iron (by my insurance RN). The program folks advised that I didn't need to take them yet.  I think they're waiting for that first 3 month blood labs.
