Calcium Question

I take a couple of chewable Calcium Citgrate tablets every night after I brush my teeth and right before I go to bed. They are made by Bariatric Advantage and are 400 mg apiece. Last night I forgot to take them so I figured I'd double up today so I took a couple about 2:00pm. About 5:00 I get the worst damned stomach cramps imaginable. I haven't had any kind of stomach problems at all with this RNY and so developing something new after 4.5 months was kinda worrisome. And then I got to thinking: These are the same stomach cramps I have when I wake up in the early morning to go take **** Usually they're mild enough that I can get back to sleep. Sometimes not. I attributed the cramping to sleeping so soundly that I didn't push out any farts for 5-6 hours at a stretch and being cramped up from gas pains. So when it's been bad enough that I couldn't sleep, I'd walk around the house for 5 minutes or so trying to pass gas, which I usually did.  So long story short: Anybody got any idea as to whether these calcium tablets are causing me stomach cramps? If so, reckon it would help to take one at a time? Is there any chance that these calcium tablets are harming my stomach or intestines? I chew them down to powder. They actually taste pretty decent. Any relevant information or anecdotes would be appreciated.

It's a good choice in pills...But very expensive as you know.  I went to Walgreens looking for a chewable calcium citrate.  Couldn't find one.  Will have to look elsewhere.  Brian

I got 3 bottles of the Tropical Oasis liquid Calcium Citrate and like it a lot. 1 tablespoon is all it takes to get the 1200 mg required, it tasts good, and 1 bottle is a month supply. It was on sale for $10 a bottle, which I thought was a good deal.

I can't remember if it does or not, but does BA have sorbitol or any type of sugar alcohol in their products? I'm extremely sensitive to sugar alcohols and artificial sweetners and even a bit will make me gassy....the worst is sugar free gum...becasue they are all loaded with sugar alcohol. You might want to try Upcal with D.  It's a powdered form of Calcium citrate, highly absorbable, and from my understanding (i just pop pills at this point) it tastes kind of like pixie sticks.  I know a lot of DSers use it, because the big 200 and something dose container is under 20 dollars on vitalady.com.     Scott

I didn't take any for the first couple of months. And then I read some **** over at Tuna Town, as Boner calls it, that scared me in to buying some and taking it. I only took one today after lunch and my stomach didn't bother me. Maybe taking two at a time was to much or something. Anyway, thanks for all the input guys.
