Protein alternative

I just ordered some NST (Nutrition Sport Technology) protein "shots" for my wife who has difficulty getting any protein shakes she likes. These are called Hi-Pro-Shot, 60 ml size. My son found them at Rite Aid, but he said they were close to $3 each.  140 calories, and 25 grams of protein per bottle.  I looked online and found them at Amazon.com. If purchased there, I think the price was $15.48 per case of 12 bottles, and if ordered on monthly autoship, the price was $13.48 including shipping for the same 12 bottles.  Local purchase was cherry flavored, and Amazon has a citrus flavor. This works out to $1.12 per bottle, far less than near $3 per bottle. No gas to burn, no shipping costs either.  Even if you ordered 2 cases per month, that's roughly $27, half the price of the IsoPure protein powders.

Dave,

I was just surfing around looking for this product, but i couldn't seem to find it. Found something called Quantum no-shot by NST on amazon, but alas.

The reason i did is that I'm curious what the protein QUALITY is in this product (i.e. amino acid composition). My mother, also a WLSer, found something that sounds similar called a Pro-Shot. It looks like a test tube, and was touting 35 grams of protein per serving. The problem is that it was about 75% hydrolyzed collagen which is the LOW LOW of protein quality.

Remember, the top of the list is Whey Protein Isolate, followed closely by Whey Protein Concentrate (a little more fat and lactose). That's why IsoPure is so expensive, it's WPIsolate.

I have used Unjury since my surgery in '06 and continue to be VERY happy with it. You should check it out if you haven't crossed paths with it already www.unjury.com

Thanks for your post.  I had no idea there was difference in proteins.  This was very helpful to learn.

Oh ya! I find that often fellow WLSers neglect the nutrition science behind what the doctor tells us. I've been lucky to have a really great nutritionist in my dr's office.

For a good primer on protein check out : http://www.faqs.org/nutrition/Pre-Sma/Protein.html

It's a good wash of basic protein science. Remember that the est. intake values are different for us WLSers with absorption alterations.

Product Description Dietary supplement. Nitric Oxide Support, BCAA's, Taurine, Caffeine. You may want to know how much Caffeine is in here before ordering. too much can cause an ulcer and possibly a perforated pouch....LOOK OUT!   Just my 2 cents. Check out Manna Nutrition he has

IDS New Whey Liquid Protein 42gm Protein 3.1oz

A bit pricey for it but check around and see. he says if you find a lower price he will match it. Dan  is a great guy to deal with.

Dear Dave, I still cannot find the dried peas (salted) that you talked about in another blog.  Are they organic split peas for $1.19 per pound?  I had a friend copy and paste the website you gave, and he could not find it, either.  It is with Clark's Nutrition, isn't it?  Please help!  They sound great! Also, do you know of a calcium citrate powder?  Thanks! Gigi.1
