what's the deal with???
Hi, it's been a long time since I've gotten on this board. I had my surgery November 6th and I've lost 85 pounds so far!
So here's the deal, I cannot NOT drink with my meals. What's the big deal if I do? So I get full faster but I'm doing very well and getting in all of my liquids and protein.
So who else has to drink with their meals? Is this really a major faux pas?
You CAN do whatever you would like. If you want to be successful you should follow the plan that the surgeon has laid out. Not just for a month or two months or a year but forever. I can guarantee that if you follow the surgeon's plan, you will be successful. If you want to make your own rules then good luck with everything.
I say this not to be a dick but as a precaution. I often drink with meals and am not as successful as I should be. When I don't I feel full longer and eat fewer calories for the day. Stick with the plan.

I think with the RNY you stand a real chance of washing through needed essential nutrients too fast if you drink with a meal. You don't want to liquify chewed foods by drinking and washing them through the stoma.
I am not 100% sure of this, but I believe I have read it before.

You make up your own by picking out the scale and then the marker.
Then highlight it and do a "control C" function to copy it.
Then sign-in tho OH and go to User Steeings on the left side of the screen. Go to signature and do a "control V" function to paste it into your signature.
Part of the problem in addressing your question is finding out what you mean be drinking with your meals? Kinda like Clinton's definition of 'is." My surgeon said you can sip with your meal. I may drink a couple ounces with a meal. That's quite different than having several cups of coffee or cans of soda. I may have about 1/4 of an 8 oz glass of water or other fluid. But, I suggest that you do check with your surgeon on that.
Same here. My doc said "no liquids or food within 30 minutes of each other" This means that if I eat, I must wait 30 min to take a drink. If I drink I must wait 30 min to eat! Very clear and easy to follow instructions.
It has to do with washing the food through the system too fast and thus getting the calories but not the nutrition of the food we eat.
As has been said here, FOLLOW YOUR DOCTORS ORDERS! If you don't, all bets are off!
