Any last advice before Tues.(D-Day)?
Sip. Walk **** Stay medicated as needed. And know that, whatever day it is, tomorrow will be better than today.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
Ear plugs and masks for over the eyes (if you have them...I wouldn't go out and buy them). If you've been in the hospital before you will know how much they will wake you up to take your vitals. You never get good sleep in the hospital (esp. if you are close to the nurses station [they talk all night]). The gas will pass in a few days. They spray alot of air to test the pouch. It remains for up to a week in your system. Hoping to hear a good report. Brian
Don't go out and have a "last meal"! You will have many more meals after surgery, you will not be able to OVERSTUFF yourself like you used to and you will be splitting many more meals with the wife and will be looking at the "all you can eat for $6.99" places differently but you also get to take home those meals and eat them for 2, 3 or 4 meals total!
Do take before pictures, head on, from the side and at a 45 angle. Do not "suck it in" as it is useless anyway and you want an accurate record of where you started from.
Do get out of bed as soon as possible, drink as much as possible, walk as much as possible. If something does not "feel right" then mention it! I could have died from blood clots to my lungs if I had not sought help when it happened, 2 weeks after surgery.
Don't worry about what you can eat or can't eat, your tastes will probably change.
Welcome to the losers bench!
Get it hot, hit it HARD,
Hammering away the pounds!
Hammering away the pounds!
I second everything that's already been said but here's a "strange" bit of advice that I remember from my surgery 2 months ago. Depending on the level of "hairiness" you have, shave the back of your hand and forearms. This removes the hair from the areas where they insert the IV and prevents them from getting caught in the tape. Sounds weird but I know it save a lot of post-op pain from getting the IV switched, bandages after blood samples, etc. Good Luck, we'll all be thinking about you and wishing you a safe and speedy recovery and landing on the Loser's Bench
