I can't sleep I usually wake up @ 2 am...my boss has banned me from the office before 5 am - so I sit and chug coffee and suck down the boob tube until I can go. I am going on a 8 day cruise to the Mexican Riviera tomorrow - it's 11:15 PM and I and I wide awake. I take dope pills to sleep, but they wear off quickly and I am left no better off for their use.  My wife is , understandably, getting pissed.

I suffer from that from time to time too . But Im up at this time of night anyway I dont get off untill 3:00 am . I try not to drink any coffee after 10:00 pm so I can go to sleep at a reasonable time ( 5:00 am ) That carries over to the weekend though . I dont even try anymore three am is my usuall bed time now.  Have fun on your trip today . LOL  I love Mexico, I hope to  have a condo down there someday, somewere , somehow . Best wishes  Nick

If you are drinking caffinated coffee, that could be your problem. It takes days for the effects of caffine to leave the body. As I got older I learned (the hard way of course) to really limit my caffine intake. Otherwise I had the problems you are describing. You'll know if you are addicted to caffine if you quit and about a day or two later you get one hell of a headach. After that it gets better. Doug

Coffee and stress were the major contributors in my inability to sleep, Baja. About 6 months ago, I was getting only 4 hours or so of sleep each night. I was drinking at least a pot of coffee each day and my stress was pretty much at an all time high withe the marriiage thing and my job heading for the crapper. Cut back on the coffee and cranked up the exercise and now I'm sleeping 6 hours each night. Give it a try and see if it works for you. If not, maybe the old sleep apnea could be sneaking back into your life and it may be time for the dreaded sleep test. Best of luck and have a great time on your cruise. Boner

At 57, maybe I'm a bit older than some here...but I've noticed that in the past months since WLS, that I too use much less sleep. I say "use" in that I'm usually asleep about 6 hours or maybe 7 each night. Then I'm awake and unline the previous 5 decades, I can never get "back" to sleep. Asked my peers and almost all of us are the same....we just need less sleep time. So I dont think it's truly WLS related at all.... That said, as I'm self employed, I go into the office early say by 5 or 5:30 and get LOTSA work done before the phones ever start ringing - and then I feel fine some days knocking off at 4 or so..... Great for biz and I never ever miss the sleep! :-) Jim

While I can sleep longer (up to 10 hours if I try) I find that I do best right now with about 6 hours of sleep a night. I go to bed at 9:30 or so and am up at 3:30am to go to work. If I get much more sleep than that, I am very tired the whole next day! It used to not be that way, I used to be tired all the time (from my SA, which I wore a CPAP for) now, I have been without the CPAP for over a year and I sleep GREAT!, just not for long streches at a time :p I am on DECAF coffee 99% of the time and if i do drink some "regular" coffee or espresso, I sure can feel the caffeen! It never used to be that way, I was living on the caffeen, now I hate that feeling and good decaf tastes just as good as good "leaded" coffee.

You may need a different sleeping aid. I take sleeping pills due to severe headaches. Most nights they work well, and I get 6-7 hour steady sleep. Once in a while, I think my mind doensn't shut off, and I'm awake at 3 to 4 Am, but that doesn't happen too often. Maybe the vacation will help you too.
