Wondering if any of yall wrote letters  before your surgery to friends and loved ones in case of a big UT-OH.   I am debating doing this.   I have updated my will  and have a living will. Sorry to be morbid    Eddie

Hi Eddie, I don't think it's morbid - it's just practical and thoughtful. All surgeries have some risks.  In many WLS'ers cases, a major reason we take on the risk of surgery is because the alternative is even riskier. While this question has been discussed before, it's a good one that bears repeating.  As I recall, lots of the guys on this board did something similar to what you suggest.   I updated my will and some personal letters I wrote years ago (and keep with my will) for just this purpose.  I originally wrote the letters "just in case" an auto accident or such were to occur - I hadn't become obese yet.     When I planned my WLS, I updated the letters  and purposely kept them upbeat and positive so they (hopefully) wouldn't cause family and friends to dwell on it too long if the worst were to happen.  I didn't think anything would happen but I wanted to be prepared.  JP

I didn't do any of this stuff since I KNEW I was going to come through in flying colors. Not saying it's not a practical thing to do but I had better things to do like figuring out what my new life was going to be like post WLS. This was going to be my last chance to change my life around and I was going to do everything I could to be successful by learning all about nutrition, exercise and WLS in general. I say if it makes you feel comfortable doing it, then go for it. Otherwise, don't. Boner

On a professional level, I felt obligated to make sure my butt was covered for the company I work for in case I died or had major complications.  I'm the IT director for my company so I have alot of passwords that I regularly update on a paper file that the CEO has access to.  As far as personal, no I didn't write a will or send letters because I had trust in my surgeon that I would come through ok... the major major complications, that keep you in the hospital are truely rare... but if you feel its needed, there's nothing wrong with getting things in order before going under the knife. Good luck..

I did the same as sperk.  I wrote it on my laptop and left instructions on how to get it.

I did.  After that, I could finally relax.  Until, I was a nervous wreck.
