Protein
I've mixed my protein supplements in a Magic Bullet cup. One scoop of Isopure (25 gr. protein) about 3 inches of water, and two ice cubes. Put top on Magic Bullet, and mix for about 20-30 seconds. Consume over about 30 minutes, so it's not going in too fast. Restrict to 25 grams or so per serving. Much more protein at one time is wasteful. If you go to www.bulkfoods.com they have bulk whey protein there that you can flavor for shakes, or mix in with foods you make at home.

I will second what Dave has said. Taking over 25g-30g of protein is all your body and kidneys can ahndle at one pop. Anything over that is a waste of time and money, as well as very taxing on your body. I have done lots of research and spoken at great length with my Phd nutritionist and she also confirms this. There are many people who will say the following - "well then why can high performance bodybuilders and marathon runners eat a couple hundred grams of protein at one time and they are fine". Here is the problem with the logic when it comes from RNY postops - we are not high performance athletes who work out for 4-6 hours straight or marathon runners who run for 2.5 hours at one pop. High performance means those guys bodies are burning it up faster than they can put it in. I used to be a body builder/powerlifter in my earlier years - I have the pictures on my profile to prove it and I can tell you I was one of those guys consuming 300g-500g of protein a day - either through food or supplements. The average postop RNY guy is not at that level. Now there are many guys on this forum who run triathalons (these guys are more in line of being considered high performance athlete) and they need lots of protein at one pop to compensate for their bodies needs. Medically speaking - as far as a regular person is considered - and yes I am putting RNY patients in that group, when you intake more than 125g of protein a day you are slowly killing your kidneys UNLESS you are using it up by working out constantly. Well what does that mean to workout constantly? This means you are training/running/lifting/exercising/doing physically demanding physical labor (like construction) for 4-6 hours a day. I am willing to bet that hardly anyone on this forum works out like that except for a handful of members like "Not Dave" or "Kypdurran" or "A.J.P." - You have to be a real work horse stud to need more than 125g. The key to protein intake is to space it out evenly. Again, take 25g-30g and then you really need to wait about 3 hours before taking anymore in or else you might as well consider it a waste. You are misleading yourself to count that as protein intake if taken sooner than every three hours. Sorry to be so long winded here, but many people are misinformed about how much protein they need or can handle at one pop. Just as an FYI - most people who are postop - the medical guidelines say 60g-80g for the average RNY'er. Take care and be good. Taz
Note - You do what you want, as I am sure that is what most people do anyway. Do not take my word as the gospel, I am no doctor, just well educated and very informed. Do the research medically and see for your self. Lastly, go by what your surgeon says - ultimately he/she is your god like authority - or they should be since you trusted them with your life in doing the RNY procedure.
hated the choc milkshake type big time!
so I get mine (now) via beans, lamb, chicken etc...saradines too! love them! and that omega-3 is good for you too...
but I do remember earlier on, that I'd go to the local drugstore and buy a case pack (24 I think) of Protein bars - sorta like a choc bar but each had 30g of protein...
all kinda flavours and textures were available, but my own fav was the Cadburys PowerBar....have one or two of those daily and you're gonna be over 100g of p daily!

Chocolate Unjury in skim milk, I take it as a mid-afternoon snack. Sometimes I get creative and add things to it like peanut butter or strawberries or cherries when in season and when I feel really wild I add mint extract for the chocolate-mint treat.
At two weeks I was not allowed any protein supplements. I didn't start them until about a month after surgery and then in 3 oz servings until about 4 months out then I could handle the 8 oz serving.
