Hello my buff younger brothers and fellow ripped codgers (you know who you are) and all the rest of us. Here's the url foran  article from Friday's New York Times about 60-plus bodybuilders. you might find it interesting. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/03/fashion/03Fitness.html?pagewanted=all Now if I can only find my stash of HGH . . .

I think when you're older may be the best time. Being retired makes it much easier to work out three hours a day. Then you can take those naps in the easy chair right after for thorough recovery!

Best Wishes,

Dave

As a fellow 50+ codger myself, I think it's harder for us to get motivated to push ourselves physically. Why do it? Who are we trying to impress? We're not trying to attract women like we were when we were younger. What's in it for us codgers to get "buff?"

To me, it's all about self esteem and health. Before WLS, my self esteem was as low as she goes so the more "buff" I get, the better I feel about myself. As a fit codger, I certainly stand out in the crowd just like I did when I weighed nearly 500 pounds. Except this time, I'm admired and often get asked how I'm able to stay in such good shape at my age. If only they all knew, huh?

More importantly, the more fit I get, the better I feel physically and the more energy I have. It's frickin' amazing how crappy I feel when I don't work out. The differences are boggling. When I get on a good fitness roll for 2-3 weeks, I feel like a kid again physically. On the other hand, if I don't exercise 4-5 times a week, I start feeling like a codger again. Not the 500 pound codger mind you but still a tired, stiff, and lethargic codger. Flippin' amazing really.

So, not to preach, but I am 100% convinced that nutrition and exercise are the true fountain of youth for us codgers. We don't need to be "lunatic fringe" in order to drink from the fountain but the more we drink, the younger we get.

Hey doug, can't find the article without joining the site so that's out. can you print it out?

whatever it said must have struck a nerve. that was a great post by boner. so i imagine it has to do with working out and being a geezer like me. yeah, same boat, i'm not trying to impress anyone anymore but i do it for health and yeah, i would rather look like this than the way i did before.

but consider this (and i would like feedback from other lifters with this situation). there's some people that think this time i look gross! why? because i have veins everywhere.....lol. they stick out all over the place and they squiggle all over when i move. i mean it really grosses out some people. they just don't know how hard it is to get those veins to pop like that! when i'm in a tank top and move my arms the veins take this tortured path and move all over the place up to my neck. one of my g/f's friends was freaked out and turned away! go figure.

i always thought the idea was to look defined and vascular. well, i'm off point. i need to read the article....lol. didn't mean to go off on a tangent. it's just that it seemed so funny that i'm still considered gross! carbonblob
