I am Extremely Obese now!

Was just updating my tracker and ticker with a new weight today and noticed that my BMI has now dropped under (just barely) the magical 50 that has categorized me as Super Obese for so long, and I am now classified as "only" Extremely Obese...

Still working the pre-op diet and exercise as best I can, and have more appointments scheduled with my Dr. on Monday - 4/7.  Hopefully I'll be close enough by then that we can schedule a date for surgery!

Playing with the BMI calculator, it looks like I need to loose another 69 pounds to be "merely" Obese - not sure that's going to happen for me without surgery, but at least I'm moving that direction!

Seems like an odd victory to be "Extremely Obese," but it does seem to have brightened my day, so I wanted to share.

Go to a store and pick up a 20 lb. sack of charcoal or something. Thats how much you ain't hauling around 24/7! Your joints arn't thinking its insignificant and neither should you. An excellent start, nice work. Doug

I'm either 32 lbs lighter or 4 inches taller away from being merely Obese. I'm guessing the 32 lbs will come off before the 4 inches of growth comes through. Can't wait. Doug's comment about the sack of charcoal made me think about something that happened the other day. I was carrying a case of water up on my shoulder to where I work. I've been trying to make myself take the stairs instead of the elevator for the last couple of months and I guess I've about got the habit established cause I started up the stairs with that case of water on my shoulder and about 3 steps in to it was going "Oh ****" But I finished up and was winded and wobbly when I got to the second floor. That case of water totals 12 liters which should weigh about 25 lbs. I'm wondering how the hell I ever used to get up the stairs when I was just 25 lbs heavier, much less 100 lbs heavier. As a matter of fact, I never took the stairs when I was 100 lbs heavier and now I know why.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.

Thanks for the memory, Jfish. I remember when I stopped using elevators here at work. Since I was the designated "water boy" for buying water for the office, I would lug the cases up the 4 stories once a week. We now have it delivered so I no longer have the "opportunity" for the "water boy calorie burn" but let me assure you, I wobbled my way up the steps many, many  times.  Way to go, man!! Boner

Congrats! As for the weight not being there, it's a distribution issue. For example, I have a hobby where I put on replica medieval armor and fight.  That stuff when fully equipped weighs anywhere from 50-70 pounds depending on what style I am wearing. Well because it is evenly distributed all over my body, I don't even notice it.  It's not like I'm picking up 70 pounds of armor and throwing it over my shoulder. But it is a great accomplishement to lose that weight and then be able to make those stairs or walk those laps or do those chores with that extra weight up on the shoulders.  You should all be proud of each little accomplishment you make.
