Here's the problem...
I have a left hip problem as well, and walking was really tough in the first few months, but after losing the first 100 lbs it became a much less painful irritation. I started using a cane in all my daily activities, even though I did not think I needed one. It made a big difference, by helping distribute the load off my hip and my walking was must less painful, so I was able to keep it up three times a week with rest days in between. I also did a lot of isometric muscle flexes while sitting at my desk at work. I use to do butt clenches, legs, and back for about 5 minutes every two hours. It helped strengthen my weak leg and got my butt firm enough to stop my tail bone from hurting due to my lost padding. I also got into a pool when I could and did some swimming with was great exercise and no hip pain in the water. After six months and 100 lbs down I gave up the cane and could walk on flat level ground with minimal discomfort. I now use a “concept 2” style rowing machine (the kind with a fan resistance) to help me work the legs, butt, and back with limed hip rotation. Good luck finding what works for you. Herb
