How long off work
I guess it's totally possible, but I (personally) couldn't do it and go back to full days... I was out 2 full weeks, then another week of only half days... I was just so drained by 1:00. If I had the time available, I think I would've taken a full 4 weeks. Of course these days, you gotta do what you gotta do.
I guess it would partially have to do with how hectic or stressful your workplace is.
Good luck
I was out for 10 business days. Had surgery on Monday, was back to work on the Monday 2 weeks after..... BUT - do what you Dr. tells u.

I had my surgery on March 4th and today is my first day back to work. I waited a full four weeks and I'm glad I did. I'm back to work (desk job as well) and I'm feeling great. Two weeks ago I couldn't see myself even sitting in one place for more than two hours without having to lay down. A week ago I could have seen myself back to work but I am glad I took the full four weeks to get back to at least 95% recovery.
Hey Eddie - I can't really help you with this one since I had a few complications after surgery and had to spend a lot more time than expected off from work. But I do want to encourage you to do as the doctor says and everything should be alright. I also want to wish you the very best with your upcoming surgery. It will be here before you know it and you we be on the Loser's Bench with the rest of us "Losers".
Hey Eddie, I had RNY as well and was also a Controller/CFO type and took 4 weeks off after my surgery. Physically, I could have gone back after a couple of weeks but the extra 2 weeks allowed me to get my head straight after all the changes I had gone through. Most importantly, the extra time allowed me to get with the post-WLS program and get my routine of good eating and exercise in place and well underway without the distractions and stress of work.By the way, the national average time off following WLS is 21 days. Best of luck with your WLS. Boner
I also had a lap RNY, with no appreciable complications.
I booked 2 business weeks off, and used all of it, mostly because I promised my wife.
Had surgery on Monday; by Friday of the same week, I felt good enought that I could have returned to my desk job. That said, when I did go back, that first week was a corker, because I would run out of gas right after lunchtime, and had to fight to stay awake. It took me a whole month post-op to get my stamina back to or exceeding pre-op levels.
Of course, your mileage *WILL* vary.
I was out for 6 weeks and I was glad for the time off. After the first two weeks, I felt fine but as soon as I started moving around a bit, I was totally wiped out and had to take a nap. Everyone is different but take this time to take care of yourself, this is a concept that might be hard to think about but you need the time to adjust to your new life style. I sure would have had problems at work with the soft food and constant sip, sip, sip that was required after surgery.
