Women with WLS outnumber men with WLS about 10 to 1, FWIW. Obviously you'll see more problems among women as a result. I can't argue with Herb's emotion angle, either.

yeah, gonna go with herb on this one too. Dx had some good feedback on this a while back too. basically men lose faster and are motivated towards exercise.

i can say this. when we exercise we dose on endorphines and we feel good. it's natures way of staying high. a lot of the women don't get physical crazy like us. add what herb said and you get the point. as russ mentioned, i've been hospitalized more than 7 times in two years. half of those for my back after the surgery but still i've had problems. so yeah, it does get some of us. if i can't shrug something off, i come here and whine about it. so i feel better about it. you go to the main board and you're asking to get depressed and beaten up. and that's just signing in! i can't tell how much i depend on this board for help, support and info. i learn even from the newbies. i think that's played a big part in my journey and success. you read that main board stuff and it just amazes me. i walk away wondering why they even got this surgery if they're so unhappy a hundred pounds less.

when i started with our group for surgery it was me and four ladies. in the beginning they had us bring in our wives, husbands etc. i never picked up on it but my g/f said that one of the gals kept asking the speakers if she could substitute this, or do that or whatever. she was already trying to break every rule they were trying to get us to do to make it work. simple fact that's been pointed out is there are many more women that have this done. if you go in with her attitude you're throwing away money and going through the pain for nothing. when i went back and saw a new group sometime later, the guys in there were all like, yeah, i can do this and really eager to change and face it head on. i think that's how us guys are. this is another challange, we're competitive and we don't like to lose.

i think there's another post near here where a guy is coming back from drinking. look at how he projects the outcome. he knows he messed up, confessed, asked for help and now is determined to put down the booze and get his act together. want to guess the turnout if this were a gal on the main board?

Don't try to figure the Broads out, it will only make you crazy    ... and they will resent you for it. When you really get down to it, who cares what they think

Firstly, I bet if you did a survey, more women have the surgery than men. Secondly, no matter what gender you are, obestiy does create health problems. These health problems will vary with the patient.  You're friend may have had other health issues you're unaware of. SO, considering women have more surgeries, and obese people have more problems, then it probably seems that more women have post op problems.  Some people have a poor tolerance to pain, and some become "alamists" every time they feel strange after they eat something, sleep on the wrong side ,etc. Some people just like to complain, and I dont' think men top that list.

So I guess what I hear you guys saying is that being the proud owner of a vagina is not a net positive in the game of life.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.

Yep we tend to just "deal with it" when we have some problems but it is indeed wise to get checked out by our docs when we do feel a pain where there shouldn't be one. Take me for instance. I had a pain that I thought was gall stones. It turns out that the pain was exactly that and was no big deal but in the process of finding out for sure, the tumor in my kidney was found and the kidney had to be removed. As my cancer doc told me last week, "Congratulations, you are a cancer SURVIVER!" meaning that there is NO trace of more cancer, six months out from the kidney surgery. This would NOT have been possible and I would be dealing with chemo and cancer problems with a short expected life span if I had NOT gone to the doctor with a " little pain" Lets not forget that that "little pain in my side" about 2 weeks out from surgery turned out to be blood clots in the lungs and was a VERY SERIOUS CONDITION THAT ABOUT 30% OF THE PEOPLE DO NOT SURVIVE! The symptoms themselves were not that tough to deal with but what they indicated health wise could have killed me!

I think the issue is that more women have WLS then me.  We are such a small minority when it comes to WLS that it is only natural that women would have a greater number  of issues, but I think if you look at it percentage wise, it's probably very close. Scott
