My doctor asked me what the first thing I was going to drink was going to be after my surgery the last of this month, and I responded, a nice big shot of Hiram Walker....

Hey Mark, First step in fixing a problem is recognizing there is a problem.  Sounds like you are past that stage. Hang tough!

I totally know what you are going through! I think alchohol tastes better now too, but I stay away from anything that might have sugar in it. I find myself grazing as well and thinking that I am eating way too much. I have gained 4lbs in two weeks and I'm freakin out. You need to review your reasons for having the surgery in the first place and get that frame of mind back. Look at how far you have come in this journey and hopw successful you are at it! No backsliding now! I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone and support is here when you need it.

Nope, you are not alone. I have been reading the replies to your post with interest. With me its Brandy and I've been drinking too much of it. I've gained about 5 lbs and I think its all due to that. So I know what the problem is, just not sure how to deal with it.  Doug

I can't say it better than the guys have already done. Good luck, hold your head up high and deal with this like you are doing.

Hey guys - I'm pre-op and like JFish, these kinds of posts make me wonder if I am doing the right thing by having the surgery. But then I think about it and I know I am.   As for you fellas who are post-op, all I can say is it seems to me that you all have  gone through too much, risked too much and come too far to screw yourself by drinking or other foolish things.  You know better.  You guys are the "role models" for those of us who are pre-op. Now get back on the program and shape up!!! Too much is at stake for you! We are watchin' and pulling for ya!

I've been going through some of the same problems.  At dinner I seem to eat a normal amount.  But after dinner while sitting around watching the tube, I know it's all in my head, but I'm still hungry.  So I try to drink a glass of milk or something like that.  But I usually end up eating something I shouldn't.   I'm down to 238lbs. from 412.  I really don't want to screw it up, but it's just boredom.   BTW - I've had two beers in 18 months.  The first time, it made my gout flare up, the second time.  BEER WAS GOOD!   But I'm trying not to even start drinking.   Bamabob, Good luck to you with your surgery.  It's a great thing, but it's not easy.   Later, Dave
