Melt down from alcohol.

Hey Guys, Just looking to vent a little here!! I had my surgery 15 months ago. My lowest weight was 182. I am now up to 197. Why does alcohol taste so much better?? I am finding myself drinking alcohol every night. Wine or Gray Goose & Cranberry juice.  I usually have about 4 -5 glasses per night. Then I take Tylenol PM to sleep. With the added calories from drinking, and I am pigging out  at night I am going back to my old ways. I find myself grazing all day, and eating whatever is around. I have no restrictions on grease or sugar. I am too tired to work out in the morning.  I know that I am killing myself. I need a hard kick in the ass. Well it finally hit me today what I was doing to myself. I had too much to drink last night and I could not remember what I had to drink OR what happened after dinner. I would not even take cold medicine today. I wanted to clean out my system. Self detox. I am going back to the gym tomorrow. Starting from scratch. My doctor does not like me to eat the protein bars and shakes, regular food only. But this is what helped me get to where I am at today with the weight loss so I am going back to the beginning.

This includes getting back to this site every day.

My goal weight was 165 and still looking to get there……(thanks for reading my rants)!!!!!

Hey,  Understand what is going on... We fix the physical with surgury, but the mind remains. You are adapting a way to consume calories bypassing your bypass.. Stop now.. Many of my freinds have gone down that road only to find themselves worse than they were before.. before you pick up that drink ask yourself what did I do this for?  I have found that in myself that its a type of couping mechanism.. See your self were you want to be, and Be that person. You are SOO CLose... I beleave in you man... reach within your self and stop.. and if you need help doing it there is no shame in that..  You ARE WHAT YOU BELEAVE.. BELEAVE IN YOURSELF and there is no telling were you will be.  Dan

**** Man!! Posts like this scare the **** out of me. I haven't really drank all that much in the last 4-5 years, but I think it was mostly because I was eating so damned much there wasn't any room for it. I don't know what I'll do when I get to your stage of the game. I sure do like me some Crown and Coke. Or did back in the day. I don't imagine it's any different now, though I haven't tried yet since surgery.  Good luck with your rally. The fact that you're committed to coming back here will help.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.

Well if you wouldn't cheap that cheap-ass brand of vodka you'd be fine  Just kidding bro... you seem to have recognized the problem and have a plan to combat the problem. Ram that plug back in the jug, pump you some iron, and hang out... looking forward to hear of your progress, you can probably help someone out  with the same troubles.

Transferring addictions is common among WLS patients. You relied heavily on eating food to excess for years, and now you can't.  Some take up drinking, some drugs, or other addtictions. Glad you realize the problem already. Problem with drinking is that you can feel sober, yet your blood alcohol will send you to jail if stopped.  My surgeon is writing letters to lawyers of his patients who got carried away with just social drinking, and ended up with DUI's.

Hi Dave,

My sister-in-law said the same thing about picking up another additiction. I laughed at her. Thank goodness she now lives in Texas and does not see me now.

My biggest fear is a DUI. Well, I am off to the gym. Have a good day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are worse things than a DUI... but you already know that   Good on you for grabbing the bull by the horns and taking back control     I should join a gym like you  - I wake up mighty early and my boss has banned me from the office before 5 am.  Of course, no one there would bat an eye if I worked till 10 PM

You are right. There are worse things then DUI. I still have a supportive & loving wife and 2 beautiful daughters. I go to the gym at 5:00 in the morning. Workout for 1 1/2 hours and right to work for the day. I have to get back into this habbit. Day 1: NO Alcohol, NO pills to help me sleep. I wnt to the gym and jogged for 4 miles this morning.  So far feeling good.

WOW! preop, I would drin****asionally if I went out to see a band or something... 4-5 drinks would give me a nice steady buzz that would gradually fade. now, I can just about get down ONE drink and I'll have that same buzz... I think I'd be in a coma if I had 4-5 Glad to hear, though, that you're getting yourself back on track. Good luck
