Okay - I know this has been discussed, but .. Is there anything out there (free preferably) like Fit Day that has a better food database? I get frustrated with Fit Day, and I think I'd do better with something that's a tad more complete.

I've never been to fitday so I don't know that I can make a valid comparison to what I use, but.......I've been tracking on thedailyplate.com since the new year started and I'm pretty pleased with it. There's only been one food that I've eaten during that time that either wasn't on there or there wasn't something very similar that I could substitute. (ie refried beans in one resturant are probably pretty close nutritionally to refried beans in most any other). And if you run in to a food that's not in there, you can enter it into the data base yourself. I'm somewhat skeptical of the exercise/calorie expenditure calculators over there though. I think they credit you for burning way more calories for walking 3mph than what you really do.

I could generally find a food which was close enough in the FitDay database that would fit the bill so to speak. If not, I would customize any foods I didn't find in the database and once you set them up (30 seconds) they were there to use over and over. I did this for my vitamins so I could get my total (food and vitamins) nutrient RDA % report (e.g avg. 250% RDA of calcium for the month). The WLS doctor loved it when I could show him this kind of info along with my avg. protein grams, % of diet which was protein, fat, carbs and all the other cool reports. It only took me about 5 minutes a day to enter all the food I ate each day. The other thing I liked about FitDay was the automatic link with DietFacts.com which has the menus of most restaurants. So, if you ate out, you could just select the meal, push a button and it would load the meal into FitDay. Cool stuff and it was all free including the ability to customize the foods. THE key though imo is to find something, whether it be a big chief tablet or whatever, to use in order to stay informed as to what you're eating and to hold yourself accountable. To me, it's all about AWARENESS and ACCOUNTABILITY. A wise man here on the board (Dx) taught me this valuable lesson early on in my WLS journey. Thanks Dx!!  Boner

The downloadable version costs 20.00 from fit day has much more than the web site plus you can create custom foods,   It was worth the 20 dollars IMO I like the fact that I can enter custom foods. I use it in conjunction with caloriecount.com.  You can enter entire recipes there and it will do the math for you and give you the nutritional information for each serving.  Then I enter it into the fitday program.
