How soon after surgery are you supposed to start protein drinks?

As soon as you get home from the hospital. Lack of protein while you're losing a lot of weight, will lead to muscle mass loss, which you don't want. You'll need around 80 grams of protein daily.  This is usually about 3 shakes. Do not try to double up on them, as too much proein (>25 grams) may not be absorbed properly. Whey protein is the best, not the soy.

I guess that depends on your surgeon.  Kaiser hospital says no protein drinks at all.  They want you getting your protein from real food not suppliments. Scott

Yeah it depends on the doctor.  I was served protein drinks with my water while in the hospital the day after surgery.  I was told I need atleast 60g, but i've been consuming about 80+ daily.  Protein shakes, pudding with protein powder, profect shots, etc.
