Day 3 out of WLS and feeling better
It is Friday, Day 3 after surgery, and I'm feeling better.
I've gotten into the routine. Water, walking, resting, Jello and broth.
Today, I took an actual shower instead of sponge bath, careful to keep the direct flow of water off the wounds. The wounds look good -- no inflamation or swelling. The belly is still a little bruised and swollen from all that gut re-arranging inside, but the soreness has largely given way to stiffness, and even that is diminishing.
I suspect my water intake as helped a lot. I managed 48 ounces yesterday, and am well on the way to 64-plus today.
Some people have said they cannot tolerate cool (not ice water, though), but only room temp. Today, I find cool water I can take, two ounces at a time, every 15 minutes. Having it cool makes a tremendous difference.
Taking my meds with the broth in the morning worked great (I had tried crushing it into the Jello yesterday, and that was a disaster).
Highpoints of today were doubling my walking distance (an astounding walk around our 36-unit condo unit). That's every two to three hours; and the shower. Washing hair and shaving were nice, too -- almost feel human.
Got a couple nice emails from co-workers at the Tribune, too. Those were a gift.
Feeling optimistic today, rather than just surviving.
God is good. That makes life good.
(BTW, I've been blogging about this WLS journey. remims.blogspot.com)
I was frightened, too. My faith helped, a lot, and knowing a lot of people are praying for me.
I literally put myself in God's hands, and just tried to trust He wasn't through with me.
And the docs really know what they are doing with this.
The first few days are tough; expect some depression the day after and your first day home. My thought Wednesday, the day I was home, was basically, "What have I done!?!"
But you take it a sip, a walk, at a time. And this forum has meant a lot to me, too.
For what it's worth, Amigo, I'll pray for you.
