My surgery with Dr. Freeman went well on Tuesday, I came home on Thursday about 12:30. Having some pain around the left drain tube and dealing with very loose bowels today. Is this normal and for how long? He took me off of 3 different medications and 1 type of insulin and so far I have just had to take 1 oral pill yesterday to lower my BS to 125, where it was still at this morning. This alone is a blessing and a miracle!

Good deal man.  Glad you are home and doing well.

A lot of people don't have many bowel movement the first few weeks.  As long as they are filled with bright red blood you should be good to go.

Welcome to the rest of your life and best of luck on your journey!

Didn't you mean to say, "As long as they are NOT filled with bright red blood you should be good to go?"   Just checking.

They must be runnin' a special on WLS down in Alabammy this month. Congrats corkyspop on your successful WLS. I'm sure that you and Corky have some great times ahead of you. By the way, there was a thread here this week on BMs which you should check out. Best of luck in your WLS journey.  Boner

Pardon me, (my wife says that I know just enough about everything to be dangerous ) I used to be an EMT, and IF I remember correctly, with this type of WLS surgery, I think it should be the black, tarry, very dark looking stools that would indicat trouble (since the blood from the surgery has traveled through the intestines).  If you have bright red blood, it indicates blood in your lower colon.  Now, I'll be the first to admit that I might be wrong, but If I remember right, I think that's the way it is.  But as always, consult with your doctor for a definate answer. By the way... Congatulations on making it to the Loosing Side  I shouldn't be too far behind you.  Save me a seat in the Loosing Bench

God bless you, Corkster. I had my surgry Tuesday, too, was home Wednesday night. Thursday was a day of basically surviving. Today has been much better. Just remember the water, the walking, the resting. I slept 14 hours leading in to today. I seemed to need it, and feel very good today. I haven't had anything coming out of my arse but an occasional fart. No BMs yet. I'm told this is not unusual; after all, you got cleaned out good before surgery and have had nothing but Jello (which liquifies) and water and broth, more liquids. I was surprised to be taken off two BP meds; but I've been having my wife check it regularly and so far it's well within the normal range. Stay in touch! Bob Mims

Like the swallows returning every year to San Juan Capistrano...you can always depend on Baja to provide a copy of the Bristol Chart to every post re: Bowel Movements!!!!! And I will add, with all due respect to my WLS brother...it remains one of the best visual aids ever.  I provided a printed copy to my WLS doc when we were discussing by "movements" and he too found it it hilarious. As far as your original post....I found the loose (Bristol 7) lasted about 1-2 weeks post-op and then moved to a Bristol 5-6.  Color was also an interesting phenomena as it appeared light tan almost khaki.  This can be attributed to the protein powders, cottage cheese, cheese, etc. from the "soft food" phase. Don't worry....soon the color will return and you'll be working your way up the Bristol chart. Good luck and take it slow and steady...your body will do the rest. Bigdog
